HEMI® V8 Dodge Charger In The Works, But HURRICANE I6 Come First

HEMI® V8 Dodge Charger In The Works, But HURRICANE I6 Come First

Dodge Prepares For A Powerful Future, HURRICANE Launch Pushed Up To May

Yesterday, we broke the news that multiple HEMI® V8 engines are set to return, with production starting at the Dundee Engine Plant (DEP) in Michigan as early as this August. Now, we have even more exciting information—Dodge engineers are actively working to bring HEMI power back to the all-new Dodge Charger (LB). While muscle car fans will have to wait until late 2026 for the return of V8 performance, Dodge isn’t leaving them hanging. The brand is pushing its new twin-turbocharged HURRICANE I6-powered Charger SIXPACK models forward, with production now set to begin in May and deliveries expected this summer.

I am excited to have choice.... I am considering twin Turbo when available, but I prefer it without a torque converter. It was an error not to launch with the six from the get, but maybe all the bugs sorted out of the integration before launch.

Saw this coming months ago. After Carlos’s departure, COO John Elkann has stepped in, rolled up his sleeves and went to work making some big positive changes. He seems to be a car guy who knows cars and what customers want. Yes, I know he is limited on somethings, but he has made some good moves and have put some of the right people in place to get N.A. back on track. I hope his pick for the new CEO has the same mind set and goals for Mopars future. I just home he does something to get Chrysler back on track.

If the Hellcat engine really goes in it all they need to do for the refresh, in a few years, is push that back window in past the C Pillar (flying buttress 🤤) where it belongs and add the 1968 tail lights. Then it will be damn near perfect. Bonus points is if they do a true flush wide (wider) body for the rear haunches so you could practically sit on them like the gen 2. Ducktail could be turned up a bit more too but now I’m just being picky.

😄😄😄

Is the Charger planned with the Mild Hybrid ZF 8HP?
I can pray for it can I not.

Charger

Base GME4

GT - GME4 ZF Hybrid

R/T - Eagle or GME 6 SO

Scat - Apache and GME 6 HO

Scat Plus - GME6 HO + Hybrid ZF.

SRT - GME6 HO + Hybrid ZF + more battery and HellCat

Daytona

Base -400V single motor

GT - 400V Dual Motor - ICE REV

Scat Pack - 400V Dual Motor... Upgraded

SRT - 800V 1000HP

Well, you can and hopefully Charger will have it.
I’d be interested in Hellcat with the hybrid transmission and AWD. It’s going to be a hoot.

I thought I read a quote from an engineer saying the HEMI wouldn't fit it the new Charger! This is some exciting sh*t!

Elkann is not a car guy. He believes in empowering his subordinates to pursue and facilitate what works best in their space. As long as CDR makes money, he will leave them alone to their own work until the new CEO arrives.

Even though the product people kept saying no V8 was possible, as soon as they said they were using the STLA Large platform, I knew that the V8 decision could be reversed. The new Maserati Levante Trofeo will get a V8, and it uses the same platform. So the denials were for no other reason than to appease Tavares.

It seems that they planned a slow ramp-up for this car or else they would not have started with what is obviously going to be one of the slower-selling variants: an expensive two-door EV. If they wanted volume, they would have introduced it as an affordable four-door ICE model. The four-door Charger always outsold the two-door Challenger, and the affordable V6 models outsold the V8s. And it should have been obvious that the ICE models were always going to outsell the EVs. (And the two-door Daytona seems to be underperforming even their low sales expectations, considering all the discounts being offered on it.)

@TripleT , you mentioned the GME4 a couple of posts up. Is that coming? Is it possible that the Pentastar V6 returns to the Charger at some point?

If they want to sell these at volume, they will need a model in the $35K (or less) range. A 420hp engine (Hurricane 3.0 SO) in a base model will not be affordable to most people and will not see the sales numbers that the 3.6L V6 had.

I'm all for 400+hp muscle cars for those who want them, but they need something for folks who can't afford to spend $60K to $80K for a car.

It's awesome to see the passion and ideas that we all come up with and the fact that we can see light at the end of this tunnel that Carlos Tavares put us all in. It's also nice to know that there are leaders in the Mopar corporation that understand the Mopar market and realize that we're not just here to buy cars out of basic transportation needs and that we buy these vehicles out of passion, regardless if changes need to be made to stay within the compliance guidelines. I think we are going to be okay with what's coming

The “Hemi Fix” for the Charger will cost a few bucks and I believe the Six Pack is a very attractive vehicle in AWD capability, but the heritage factor for any Dodge so called “muscle car” is too important to not pay bucks for that brand chemistry. I still believe a more important “fix” that Dodge needs is these three things.
1- A next generation, smaller, lighter Challenger to be launched powered by the next generation V-8, both rumored in deep development.
2- A line of compact muscle cars (coupe + sedan) hot turbo fours, AWD and muscle car looks and capability.
3- Yes again, a Viper mid engine sports car to compete directly with the Corvette.
Every thing here is very possible with existing corporate architectures and a lineup, augmented with three Porsche inspired SUVs also, to put the Dodge back in Dodge. For now I’ll celebrate that new Hemi Charger. Dodge really, really is coming back.
