Trump Administration Rolls Back EPA Fuel Efficiency Standards

Trump Administration Rolls Back EPA Fuel Efficiency Standards

New Policies Aim to Reduce Regulatory Costs and Increase Consumer Vehicle Choices

The Trump administration has started the process of reversing strict vehicle fuel efficiency standards put in place by the Biden administration. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), led by Administrator Lee Zeldin, announced the move as part of a larger effort to cut back on what it calls excessive regulatory costs impacting the American auto industry.

I will be happy if those stupid start/stop systems go away. I don't think all vehicle emission standards are going away, just the ones connected to the climate hysteria. What won't change are customer expectations, this will define the market choices over power train offerings.

Main stream media trots out the former climate commissars to whine to us about their loving care for Mother Earth and the down trodden masses helped by climate justice. MSM conveniently forgets about the MTBE gasoline additive debacle from California years back and the mushroom cloud over a small town in Ohio recently.

Replace all the parasitic Torque converters with ZF system, even with a modest battery, and Start/Stop isn't needed or cared about. The vehicle launches as soon as the petal is pushed.

Good news for those of us outside the Carb states.
According to the constitutional legal scholar TKs Garage, Pam Bondi will criminally sue California and Newsom if they don’t comply and no restrictive emissions laws will ever be able to come back again. Also that Newsom has said he’s ready to move past CARB. Thoughts?

Balance is key. For Stellantis, North America, the brands need to strike a balance between gas, hybrid and EV. Hurricanes, hybrids and Hemis can all live in balance along side the EV powertrains

REV and EV on everything except Charger and GGC.

I drive a hybrid more for the smoothness and the fuel economy is a bonus. Why Stellantis went backwards with the Hurricane six by using start/stop instead of the BSG is a head scratcher. The worst offender is the Lincoln Navigator, which shuts down in the car wash at the worst possible moment.

ZF briefly promoted a mild hybrid version of the 9-speed transaxle with the torque converter replaced by an e-motor similar to the rear drive based 8-speeds. CDJR should build the 9-speeds coming out of Kokomo that way.

The people in Auburn Hills need to stop and evaluate how they can simplify the powertrain offerings. battery electric products should offer a range extender option and share as much as practical between the REEV and pure EV models. The Ramcharger and Ram REV would be a good place to start. The Jeep Recon would really benefit from such a concept.
