Congratulations Jeep. Actually Stellantis should be pleased as its formula for platform sharing and integrating electrification seems to have been accepted generally, and this award predicts success for that formula. One must keep in mind that the European market is considerably different than the North American market and the decision to keep the Avenger in its limited market makes sense, for now. I have stated often that I believe an “all electric” product portfolio for most brands is a death toll for most, some electric has merit. Reality is dawning on the global auto industry that infrastructure and generation limitations as well as consumer reluctance to electric vehicle acceptance is a reality that can not be overcome with talking points and market messaging or ignoring that reality. Can the Avenger or a hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee work, certainly and good for them, but to go all in on electric for most brands and all their models, that idea is doomed for decades for certain.
Like a majority of North American buyers I have no problem with electric models in my preferred brand, but clearly I want a gas powered model for my needs and desires, or I’ll go elsewhere. Those brands, (note Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Chrysler, Dodge and others) , that follow that thinking will prosper. Those that go all in on electric are on a path to catastrophe.
That my friends is reality plain and simple and no shinny award will change that reality. Really.
