Which Pickup Trucks Are Owners Holding the Longest?

If you own a pickup truck, the odds are pretty good that you've had it for a while and you plan on keeping it for a while. And according to our friends at iSeeCars.com, that assumption is born out, yet again, with their most recent study.
In a larger survey covering all auto and light-duty pickup choices, of the top 10 vehicles being held the longest, none are pickup trucks. In fact, five of them are SUVs (Ford Expedition and Explorer, Toyota Sequoia and 4Runner, and Chevrolet Suburban), three are sedans (Toyota Avalon, Honda Accord and Ford Taurus), one is a sports car (Chevy Corvette), and one is a minivan (Honda Odyssey). And all are kept on average between 8.3 and nine years.
In regards to iSeeCars.com's methodology, the survey analyzed more than 6 million used vehicles 5 years old or older sold by their original owners between January 2013 and December 2017. Researchers focused on models owned for more than five years (to eliminate the effects of short-term lease purchases) and those that have been in production for more than nine years. The average age of each model was calculated using the ages of the vehicles when they were first listed for sale.
In the light-duty pickup truck segments (meaning mid-size and half-ton models) that were part of the overall study, only three of the top eight were held longer than the light-duty segment average of 7.7 years: the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Titan and Frontier. The rest of the list is filled out with the Toyota Tundra (7.6 years), Ram 1500 (7.4), Chevy Silverado 1500 (7.3), GMC Sierra 1500 (7.3) and Ford F-150 (7.2).
Interestingly, although not part of the initial auto industry study, iSeeCars.com did collect data on heavy-duty pickups, separating three-quarter-ton from one-ton trucks. All four three-quarter-ton HD models (Ram 2500, Chevy's Silverado 2500, Ford's Super Duty F-250, and GMC's Sierra 2500) are being held longer than the popular Tacoma.
