VW unveiled their all new offering in the European crossover B segment.

Basically this is a VW Polo with a 4 cm higher ground clearance and additional 6 cm higher driver's position which results in 10 cm higher position measured from the ground. All that lead to a much better space efficiency in comparison to Polo.

Rear bench is sliding one.
For South American market it will have longer wheelbase than in Europe. But in Europe that solution will be explored by future Škoda crossover.

It will offer a base 6.5" infotainment screen with 8" as an option. Also there will be an an option for virtual cockpit which of course can display navigation. But CPU is to slow to simultaneously run navigation on both virtual cockpit and infotainment screen.

Platform is MQB A0. So there will be no independent rear suspension or AWD.

Dimensions are:
  • length 4107 mm
  • height 1558 mm
  • width 1781 mm
  • wheelbase 2566 mm
Engine list for Europe:
  • 1.0 TSI 95 HP
  • 1.0 TSI 115 HP
  • 1.5 TSI 150 HP
  • 1.6 TDI 95 HP

VW styling looks bland to me... at least Renegade and 500X has character.

Not exactly their class. This is a proper B segment CUV. FCA offering is in between B and C segment. Something like VW T-Roc.

In other words FCA is lacking a generalist B segment CUV in Europe. Something cheaper than 500X, without IRS, with no AWD option.

Someone who can fit inside of 500X or Renegade will fit in this one. Just it's cheaper to build and due to some technical solutions can have more efficient packaging.

But yes. It's to small for US.

European market is so complicated with so many car sub-classes.

I don't know what class the Kia Soul is in, but this looks like a good competitor to it.

If it does compete in the same class then I wonder if Kia is looking at this and making some small adjustments for the next-gen Soul.
