Since the introduction of the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) has unveiled two different power upgrade kits for the performance off-roader. The first was a six-wheel-drive (6×6) variant, ditching the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI HELLCAT V8 in favor of a tuned supercharged 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI HELLEPHANT V8 making 1,200 horsepower. Only three of those trucks are to be produced. The second was a 1,000 horsepower variant of the TRX, using the company’s HPE1000 high-performance package for the HELLCAT engine. Now, the Texas tuning shop has released details on a third package, as well as video of the truck in action for the first time.

The TRX preserves the heritage, the bond if you will, of Ram and Dodge. In the minds of many of us old timers, these trucks will always be “Dodge Rams”. Another thought, it makes the transition of Durango from Dodge to Ram, as I predict once it joins the Jeep Wagoneer as a large, heavy, body on frame SUV, that much easier. I am confident on this move and to a Ram Durango TRX possibility. Yea, the TRX just keeps that Dodge link alive for Ram.
A Wagoneer sized SUV does not fit the Dodge brand performance image and so much better complements the Ram brand, this is obvious. Dodge should concentrate on its Stelvio spin off Journey replacement as the one and only SUV in the Dodge stable. Now that would be one heck of a Porsche fighter on a working man’s budget, with a name change of course.
