STLA not interested in building a PHEV or EV for under $55K

In case it wasn't obvious to everyone already - all of the PHEVs and EVs that STLA is currently building or will build in the future are being ensured to meet the US IRS/Treasury definition of an SUV/Truck, so that the $80K EV tax credit purchase ceiling limit is applicable. STLA is not interested in putting out a vehicle that falls under the $55K EV tax credit purchase ceiling for crossovers/cars that are deemed not an SUV/Truck.

Tavares is full of crap, again, about all of the profits being used to strictly fund EV investments. There is more than enough money to have investment in both ICE and EV powertrain. For the 4xE Grand Cherokee and Wrangler leases, STLA is pocketing the credit. For the trucks, nothing they sell in 4xE is under $55k. There's more than enough margin there to self-fund both ICE and EV investment.

In other news, GM is capped at the knees with the Blazer/Equinox/Lyriq EV - none of these are considered SUVs/Trucks by US IRS/Treasury. Hummer is way over the $80K limit obviously.

Full size Wagoneer EV is cancelled.

D-segment Wagoneer S is still a go, but the design is being redone (throw out the prior renders) to ensure it meets the truck/SUV definition.

E-segment Grand Cherokee / Alfa EV are a go, don’t expect them until calendar 2026 or 2027.

Airflow might be cancelled as well. Well, it isn't cancelled but no one is working on it. The team that was working on it has been pulled into all the other projects mentioned above.

It essentially proves what I've stated above - unless it's high margin (optimize to the $80K EV credit ceiling), it won't be built. If it's not a truck/SUV EV that meets the IRS/treasury definition, its not a priority.

Airflow is a go... we should be seeing more of it later this year.

/ahem ;)

Next-Gen Electric Chrysler SUV: No Longer Airflow in Name or Design

So yes, the original Airflow design was cancelled, the vehicle they are working on now is being purposely designed to receive a 'truck' designation so they aren't capped at $55K - the truck EV incentive extends all the way up to $80K.
