A little over two years ago, the then former Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) made a commitment to the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan. A $4.5-billion investment was put forth for five of the company’s plants inside the city and its surrounding metropolitan areas. Centered around those investments was the decision to create the new Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack facility.

Having spent my career in a predominately minority high school in NYC I know first hand the impact this kind of investment has on young adults. It is an investment in people first and foremost. One of the hardest values to convey to young learners is the purpose to education, a visible, viable outcome and goal for that hard effort to learn, to see school out to a real result. Seeing that opportunity right in their neighborhood at a real career is huge. The expansion of school to work internships at real work places were always the best teaching tools I ever experienced, expand that program please. There is no doubt in my mind that given the opportunity, Detroit people will excell and create value from investment. I WILL be buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee, made in Detroit.
