Hmh.

But in any case it isn't a clean sheet design so if they are packaging constraints with one of the current generation platform they could be kept with the new product.
But more freedom than people suppose. My guess is the KM doesn't stray far from the KL, but improves as much as possible using the most recent lessons. People should not discount though if they choose they could create a entirely new product on the same "platform" using themes and lesson learn in from the WL which really is the newest from the Giorgio lineage, unless you count the disguised L bodies in North Michigan last month.

You already have the Grande Cherokee and Wagoneer for that. But I understand your point. The most iconic Cherokee is square-ish. My idea was to further differentiate it from the Compass and the Grand Cherokee.
Right now the Cherokee is sandwiched between those two. If you make it bigger it will overlap the GC, with its current dimensions it overlaps the Compass. How do you solve that conundrum?

Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer are in an entirely different price point. I went through this exercise when I was researching what I wanted to buy before deciding on my KL. I've built the Compass, Cherokee & Grand Cherokee how I would order them on Jeep.ca Build & Price:

  • Compass Trailhawk Elite = $41,186 + tax (all options)
  • Cherokee Trailhawk Elite = $47,407 + tax (all options)
  • Grand Cherokee Trailhawk = $62,001 + tax (V6, most options, no rear screens)

The Cherokee offers excellent value for the price, just the footprint isn't well used. Squaring off the rear design would help considerably.
