I wonder if that six speed automatic in combination with the IC engine is from Aisin, since their transmissions show up in the front drive Compass and some of the other Fiat models sold here. The specs for the gas motor sounds like the one we see imported here already into the USA for the Renegade and Fiat 500X.
The article states the IC motor has 177hp and the rear mounted electric motor has 134hp. That adds up to 311hp in my head, but
Autocar states "In all-wheel drive mode, there’s a total of 237bhp shared between all four wheels," a little farther down. The author also makes it seem like the Compass will vacate Toluca after production is established in Italy. I thought the Compass would continue on at Toluca for the North American market.
I'm hoping something like the PHEV Renegade will make its way here to the United States, but I'm not optimistic. Other manufacturers continue to sell compliance cars for California (and the other states adopting California rules) while marketing their volume production plugins elsewhere around the globe. Will FCA step out of that pattern?
One last note, GKN announced an affordable electrical propulsion strategy in a news release on December 11.
GKN Automotive launched the next phase in its electrification strategy. The leading supplier of all-wheel drive and electric driveline technology and systems is standardizing a range of intelligent highly integrated “3-in-1” P4 electric drive systems for pure electric and plug-in hybrid...

Could this be related to the Renegade and Compass PHEV drivetrain?
