The Rebelle Rally is the first women’s off-road navigation rally raid of its type in the United States. It is the ultimate road trip for the adventurous and competitive women. The rally is competition of precise navigation using only map and compass. It takes place over seven days and 1,243 miles of back roads, across deserts and over mountains between Lake Tahoe, Nevada and San Diego, California. No GPS or any electronic navigation is permitted. Thirty-five teams completed the competition last year, with more than forty are competing this year.

The Rebelle Rally is organized by veteran off-road racer and trainer, Emily Miller. Miller was the first U.S. woman to compete in the long-running Gazelle Rally in Morocco.

Nena Barlow comes with more than 20-years of experience in the four-wheel drive (4WD) industry, and grew up exploring the Southwest. She is the owner and operator of Barlow Adventures, a Jeep rental and 4WD training company, and a certified Master Trainer with the International 4WD Trainers Association. Though a competitor, Barlow has also been providing technical 4WD training for teams competing in the Rebelle Rally, as well as offering rally-ready Jeep rentals.

These are the kinda competitions I wish there were more of. I would be extremely interested in participating, if I had a sponsor or more time off work.

and if you were a female...
Well, I meant they need more of them. Doing this on the old timber roads in northern Pennsylvania would be great. We do geocaching and from time to time I break out the map and compass to show my son how it used to be done. GPS and Cellphone apps make it so easy though.

When they open the Gamelands up to vehicle travel we drive back in as far as we can, it is fun trying to find your way with no road signs or visible landmarks.

My 5 year old already knows how to use the sun during the day and stars at night to get a general direction.

I wish all the land was still open that I was able to explore on when i was younger. Most of it has been bought up and gated, or the state made them gamelands that are not always motor vehicle friendly.

We do orienteering at the state park also. I hope to do that more often as he gets older.

Day 4 and the Marathon Leg are in the books, and last year's champs, Team Blondetourage #125, now hold the number one position by 16 points ahead of Team Hoehn Adventures #109. Emme Hall and Rebecca Donaghe of Team 140 hold third place. Nena and Chris are now 5th in the overall standings as today's competition continues in Johnson Valley OHV area, home of the legendary King of The Hammers 4x4 event.

Day 6! Today's competition continues in Johnson Valley OHV area before heading south past Salton Sea and on toward Glamis Sand Dunes in the Imperial Valley Rec. Area. Day 5 featured a unique tire change challenge and a drawing to receive a free set of Falken Tires - the preferred tires of Barlow Adventures. At the close of Day 5, Team 4 Corners was still holding 5th place. Follow all the teams live here: https://www.rebellerally.com/live-tracking/
