What attracts me to the new Fiat 500e is its simplicity and efficiency. It is a myth that all EVs are efficient. To gain range by increasing battery capacity increases weight and also increases charging time. High speed charging tends to decrease battery life.

The Fiat 500e has many proven design features, it is a continuation of research and development used in the previous compliance car and research programs. This isn't what GM did with the Bolt program, where all the previous electrification engineering was tossed into the dumpster for something new. The Bolt woes still continue.

If I was to purchase the Fiat, the smaller battery capacity would be an advantage. I could charge it over night from a regular wall plug or use one of the available level 2 public charging stations. We have Polestar BEVs in our airport fleet which take forever to charge off a standard outlet. We place in each EV a letter of notification to the renter that the nearest high speed charger is 25 miles away.

I'm an urban small car person, and am moving to electric. There is simply not a car being sold in the U.S. that interests me (I truly dislike SUVs). I'd buy a Fiat 500e/La Prima today if I could...and have reserved a Fisker Pear...should that happen. I've looked into buying in Brazil or Europe but U.S. law prevents bringing the car to the U.S. (I guess to protect U.S. dealers). I may have to move to Europe (only partially kidding...since I seem to be so out-of-step with U.S. likes). In any event, guess I'll keep driving my awesome 32-year-old CRX...and keep hoping. Am ready for electric though... Please Fiat, there must be more of me in the U.S.

The Stellantis BEV on CMP get >400 km ranges for 2023. Maybe the 500 will get an update as well.
