New Turbocharged Engine Coming Soon...

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has confirmed promises that the company gave in November of last year, for the production of a hybrid Global Small Engine (GSE) or “Firefly” engines in Termoli, Italy.

According to Unione Italiana Lavoratori Metalmeccanici (UILM), the Italian metalworkers union, the plant in Termoli will produce both 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter versions of the GSE engine in both their normal and hybrid variants. You might remember back in October 2018, we actually discussed the possibility of a new 1.5-liter engine.

AFAIK this engine will be offered exclusively as a P2 mild hybrid. That means electric motor is placed on transmission input. It can be built into transmission but not necessarily,

But now it seems that FCA will use built in solution. That means that supplier must be transmission manufacturer. Or FCA will develop new version of transmission.

One likely candidate is a ex-Getrag (Magna PT) with their 7 speed wet DCT. It's capable for up to 320 Nm of torque and can have 25 kW built in electric motor. But then question remains what to use on 2.0 turbo or diesel engines.

I consider ZF 9HP as a bottleneck of FCA FWD based cars.

I understand it as a bored out GSE T4.
I'm not sure if it has a larger bore diameter but for sure it has a longer stroke. There is no much room for bigger room on GSE engines even if they are going to use Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (PTWA) developed by Comau. Stroke will surely be longer than 90 mm, maybe even closer to 100 mm.
