Lots has happened since this story posted.
  • Now looking like Wrangler based development
  • Possibly sourced at Toledo instead of Saltillo.
  • More urban-centered than JT?

False. It was originally planned that way. Remember I mentioned that back in 2016 on Allpar. However, because of the high cost of JT, it would price a Ram midsize based on that platform out of the price category with Colorado, Ranger, Canyon, Frontier and Tacoma. The Ram will be built as a global truck. Expect it to be like the Ranger lineup with maybe a 2.0-liter turbo and 3.6-liter V6 option for NAFTA but it will be built at Saltillo around 2021. It will be a global truck and will be replace the Ram 1200 and Fiat Fullback. There will be a Fiat version of the truck as well.

Toledo South will probably be used for additional Wrangler production as well as JT production if needed.

Thank you RRB! This makes more sense to me. No matter how they tried to market the two, you would always end up with a Cherokee/Comanche conundrum. This way they don’t have to worry about the manufacturing mix or the added complexity of live axle/ifs on the same line. Also frees up room at Toledo for specialized Wrangler production.

A midsize Ram might be the only truck I'd be interested in.

I'm glad that it will be all Ram and not compromised with a Wrangler-derived setup.

The main problem was price. Wrangler Truck will be a premium vehicle. Why would FCA makes the same mistake DaimlerChrysler did with the Dodge Dakota? Remember, FCA is frugal now. This is the same brand who keeps pushing vehicles back a model year to make cash cows out of outdated ones. Which isn't a bad thing. More cash on hand, means better products and less of a chance of a sale to another automaker.

Unfortunately that does make since. JT is there to fill the midsized void, take some Tacoma share and will bring good margins. A smaller Ram midsized out of Saltillo isn't what i want, but is what FCA needs more and provides better coverage.
