So ahhh..... what happened??? The welder in QA took a month off from work or what???

How can so may welds be substandard?

Good question. I am not for bashing FCA (we try not to do that on this forum, compared to other nameless forums) but there is a lot of issues with build quality of vehicles. FCA is supposedly cracking down though. Manley is on top of it. He issued new rules with the UAW and the UAW has been notified on a three strikes your out move. FCA is trying to crack the whip on these terrible launches... all UAW employees got this note on August 20th...

SHAP has been hit with issues, different color seats in the same vehicle, window trims being different, partial bedliner jobs (which is third party) amongst others. I had to tell a guy this weekend in the rain on the way to FCA Cars & Coffee that he was dragging his fuel filler hose on his brand new 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn Black.

Manley has a background with sales and manufacturing so I am pretty sure he will mean business, especially when its two of the companies best selling and most iconic vehicles.

Do these frames arrive painted?

We have a few guys who horribly stitch weld pieces together and then use caulk to spread on with their finger and prime over it as to not draw attention to their work.

I just did my biannual welding update. We used to have inspectors who would watch you weld.

Then we didn't have much welding so we did our welding update with a pen. Now they want everyone to test out each time. I welded a bead at the update for the first time in 11 years.

Welding is pretty fundamental once you do it. And a machine is even better as it can stay steadier.

So this blows my mind how this happened. Unless the supplier was the low bidder and they passed their frames and painted them, shipped to FCA where, once painted looked pretty good.

That said I haven't looked at the pics yet.

Man I hope they can get these suppliers and new hires up to snuff soon.

This doesn't help with the wolves circling our flock looking for the week spot.

This makes not having a second plant for Grand Cherokee even worst when it redesign happens.

I've looked at the pics as an experienced eye..I can meet all FAA requirements for aircraft and my eye tells me these have to be machine welds with too much heat. Contamination and not enough weld rod. Some welds totally miss the part. The really hard part to rectify is unlike my fuel line recall on the Trackhawk these frames need an experienced welder to repar. I assume a couple dealerships have techs that can weld...but it's not like replacing a bolt on part.

I like the fact Tim K. now has Jeep under his command. Now we can get a Demon Trackhawk.

LOL. Trackhawk will return with the next generation.

True that,,,I'm trading in the 2018 Trackhawk for a 2020 with the Hellcat Red Eye engine option. Plus the new LED headlights look cool.
