Not sure about that. I like the fact that Toyota didn’t catch another break, but I don’t see them barrelling head over end in the SUV/CUV segment like kiundai is doing. I think they are trying to hold on for when the shift occurs and it will.
No management came down hard on those who didn’t read the tea leafs, and there over investment in the NA sedan market. They are absolutely scrambling to shift capacity

Keep in mind the sedan market is only dying in US and EUROPE.
The other 2 big markets, China and Middle East, are still having demands for sedans.

While i haven’t been to China in 2 years for obvious reasons, they were trending the same way

I also forgot to mention Honda pumping out civics hand over fist! Always was a big seller and still can’t make enough of them.

Yes this was a response to dealing with the negative margins. As one point Honda was upside down nearly 2K per vehicle, but that was less of lose then shuttering the plant and having zero cash flow to cover that fixed costs. There decision was to maximize production while crashing the capacity shift. Making as many as possible to spreading the lose over more vehicle and maximizing cash flow. It was pretty bold move, and incremental cost had to be minimize. They are clear from in now and the Greenville facility now make CUVs. Manager didn't have to do the frog walk.
