Ford Selling New Explorers Without Rear Seat Climate Controls

The chip shortage isn't going away anytime soon.

The global microchip shortage doesn't show any signs of easing up. It's affecting numerous industries, but the automotive realm is arguably the arena where the shortage is most visible. Empty dealership lots certainly garner attention, and it's forcing some brands to build vehicles without some notable features. The Ford Explorer is the latest victim of such strategic planning.

Anyone old enough to remember when most of the things on cars that have nothing to do with emissions worked without computer control?

So the customers get a discount for this inconvenience, yet there is still rear seat climate functionality, although you can only control it from the front screen, AND Ford will install the missing pieces in the future?

This is probably the best case scenario IMO.

In theory, the customer gets a discount for this, and assuming Ford actually follows through with the promise (*cough* unlike Jeep with Off Road pages for the 2019 Cherokee Trailhawks *cough*) this is not like they are selling the vehicles without rear climate control period, there is a chance they will have it in the future, unlike a Grand Cherokee that you would buy with the air suspension deleted.
