FCA US Reports July 2018 Sales

• Ram brand reports highest July sales ever, Light-Duty retail sales climbed 17 percent
• Jeep® brand reports highest July sales ever, retail sales rose 16 percent
• Jeep Cherokee posts best July sales ever, retail sales jumped 73 percent
• Alfa Romeo July sales increase 65 percent

August 1, 2018 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC today reported July 2018 sales of 170,970 vehicles, a 6 percent increase compared with sales in July 2017 of 161,477 vehicles.

Overall sales were propelled by the Ram brand and Jeep® brand. The Jeep brand had its best July ever as the Cherokee, Compass and Wrangler nameplates all scored record increases. FCA retail sales increased 6 percent to 153,925 vehicles while fleet sales totaled 17,045. Fleet accounted for 10 percent of overall sales.

Jeep Brand
Jeep brand July sales rose 15 percent to 79,906 vehicles. It was the seventh straight month Jeep sales have increased over the same month the previous year. Cherokee sales rose 71 percent to 20,210 vehicles, while Compass sales rose 63 percent to 12,300 vehicles, Sales of the Wrangler rose 14 percent to 21,308 vehicles.

Ram Brand
Ram brand had its best July ever as sales increased 2 percent to 45,065. Ram Light-Duty sales drove the brand’s performance with a total of 27,812 vehicle sales, an increase of 13 percent compared with the same period last year. Retail sales of the Light-Duty increased 17 percent to 26,380.

Chrysler Brand
Chrysler brand total sales declined 13 percent to 11,624 vehicles. Pacifica sales rose 6 percent to 8,775 vehicles.

Dodge Brand
Dodge brand sales were flat with last year as sales came in at 31,119 vehicles. Charger and Journey sales both posted increases. Charger sales rose 6 percent to 5,743 vehicles while the Journey rose 23 percent to 8,345 vehicles. It was the highest July for Charger ever and the highest July for Journey since 2015.

FIAT Brand
Sales of Fiat declined 45 percent to 1,240 vehicles.

Alfa Romeo Brand
Alfa Romeo brand sales of 2,016 vehicles were up 65 percent compared with the same month a year ago. Stelvio led the brand with 1,014 vehicle sales.

Little Cherokee up. Cars in the toilet.

I guess it's all about the price point now.

I guess people are running out of money for USA stuff .. but the Alfas are selling well.

Here in the Northeast south of Boston we have a Alfa dealer with the SUV out front.. last month it was $399 a month to lease.. this week it got changed to $299 a month lease....not sure why???

Demand is still very high. I've just noticed that ever since the more normal looking 2019 Cherokee was released that Grand Cherokee sales have dipped a little bit.

This might be a stupid question, but where did you get the Ram light-duty 27,812 number? Is that 1500 series sales only taken out of the Ram P/U 40,276 number? So 69% 1500 and 31% 2500/3500/chassis cabs/4500/5500? First time i remember ever seeing a "light-duty" terminology used in this type of sales report, which made me think a bit.

Or is the light duty as reported 1500/2500/3500?

That was copy/pasted from FCA's media page. Although I'd assume that you're right and the 27,812 number is taken out of 40,276, leaving a total of 12,464 HD pickups sold.

Usually they are always grouped in so you can never tell for sure. I've always used guesstimates based on recall data to get HD vs 1/2 ton sales in the past.

I'm not sure about that, sorry. I haven't seen any specific sales numbers by pickup model, but I'm sure in the sales data PR Ford, Chevy, and other truck brands occasionally say things like "Best sales month ever for Silverado 1500" or "F-150 sales down 20%" but that's just a guess, though it's similar to what we're seeing here.

Here's an interesting thing: Jeep was the 5th best selling brand in the US last month according to GoodCarBadCar.net. They even beat brands with full lineups of cars and SUVs, including Hyundai, Kia, and Volkswagen. There may be more brands scheduled to release information today, but as of right now Jeep is #5. And beating Hyunda, Kia, and VW is pretty impressive.

Since I've been researching trucks, I've not noticed either GM or Ford provide any model or "light duty" sales info. Ford especially is always careful to note "F series". From what i've found, a high percentage of those sales are F150, and of their Fseries sales, a decent % are also fleet/government. I've always tried to weed down to the retail sales comparisons because it is very telling what individual consumers are choosing in a truck. Ram has actually done great this year in retail, while the overall sales for Ram P/U does not look that great.

Now that GM has gone to quaterly, interesting for FCA to go the other way and be more transparent in their sales. Proud to show their retail market success

Yes, I haven't followed the "little" Cherokee design saga all thru the model year change, but now seeing the new model for myself just yesterday I can understand why they are selling.

You can have the good looking front end of the higher priced Grand Cherokee with the lower price of the Cherokee.

The older design was just ugly.

Last month was excellent for Stelvio in Spain. Good numbers against direct competitors:

• BMW X4 180
• Jaguar F-Pace 154
• Porsche Macan 133

The other bright spot in Spanish market is a Jeep Compass with 1223 units.

Since any potential JK inventory is basically gone given the Wrangler selling rate, JL has had a very great performance given the richer mix,and at 21,000-23,000 monthly pace.

Yes it is. l see quite a few Compass around, and of course a lot of Renegades. Whenever l see a Stelvio, and they are beginning to appear around, as well as the F/Pace, it such a relief to see a break in the monotony of the grey and black German brigade
