The American performance brand is in a huge transformation right now, as its current muscle car lineup enters its last year in production and it is getting ready to deliver its first units of its all-new C-UV. But Tavares played a short 1-minute, 20-second video during his address that previews what is in the works for the 109-year-old car maker.

Going back in time, to a quarter of a century ago, we note that the first batch of GM EV1 cars had lead acid batteries. Very soon after that NiMH batteries became available, and instantly made the EV1 obsolete. The vehicle was switched over to the newer battery technology at great expense. Now the NiMH batteries and the paddle charger of the GM EV1 are nearly forgotten.

Stellantis is saying solid state batteries are coming in 2026. Should they rush products into the market knowing something better is only months away?
