CAUGHT: 2022 Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint Prototype!

Our Best Look Yet At Alfa Romeo's Newest SUV...

1637516602461.png

As the first all-new Alfa Romeo model in over five years, the premium compact Tonale SUV looks to take on the highly-competitive C-SUV segment. Despite setbacks from the pandemic and now the semiconductor shortage, Alfa Romeo engineers continue to fine-tune the newest Italian SUV. Our good friend Walter Vayr of GabetzSPYUnit happened to get our closest look yet at the entry-level 2022 Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint.

L.Dominique has confirmed PHEV and 2.0 Q4 versions in US.
Maybe Tonale will be only 4wd in USA…

With eQ4 PHEV and 2.0 Q4 top of the Line version.

See the link to the wards interview of LD.

Yeah, I saw it. Actually this is expected. Unfortunately that in the Europe we will not see 2.0 turbo and 1.5 turbo is much weaker than originally planned so that they can push with PHEV. :(

The European Line up will be very weak for an Alfa Romeo. Probably 1.5 MHEV 130/160hp FWD, 1.3 4WD PHEV 190/240hp (Maybe more, There were rumors of 80hp eAxle for Alfa instead of the 60hp Jeep one), with no 2.0 option… and a poor 1.6 FWD 130hp diesel version… very very poor motors for a premium exotic brand like Alfa…

For US, the line up will be slightly better wis 2.0 4WD but I think the PHEV version for US with the small 1.3 engine will not sell very well. For US a 2.0 PHEV with few powersteps options would have been much better…

I like that 2.0 is available and it seems it’s not a PHEV.
What transmission comes with it?

AFAIK the list is correct and it's for calendar 2022 which means that list could and should be expanded in the future.

The only classic 4x4 model is 2.0 turbo.

There is a huge gap between 1.5 turbo 160+X HP version to 2.0 turbo 255 HP or PHEV 275 HP.

Original plans contained more powerful 1.5 turbo versions.

The PHEV is ok but none as a top of the range…

The rest will be difficult to sell in Europe due to CO2, even with MHEV, and the Diesel is dead.
Very very Italocentric range…
And for US, I hope that a more powerfull version of the 2.0 will be available… with a 325hp 2.0 MHEV 4WD, it could be in the mid/high-4s in the 0-60…
The 1.3 PHEV is to small (dispite decent power) for a C-seg. SUV in US.

6.2s in the 0-100km/h seems to « confirm » a « Compass » weight despite 13cm more length for the Tonale.

Only 252hp (255cv) for the 2.0 4WD, and a top of the range 1.3 PHEV is very désappointing for Alfa Romeo…

Anyway they both (2.0 and 1.3) will be in the high-5s range for 0-60 if my prédiction on weight is right.

The Dodge Twin Hornet will certainly be a little bit longer and more powerfull, I hope for a 2.0 4WD 300/325hp GT/Rally version.

It just obvious that the driving experience is not how PSA creates distinctive models. It is enough that each Appliance be unique only in styling and appointment. We will see how that flying in traditional brand who a known for the driving experience and excelling at a particular niche... This is especially true for Dodge, Alfa, and Jeep. Good luck explaining that culture the French where style over substance is almost cultural calling card.

The engine list is not ideal although I do not agree with @iDrive on what it wrong. I think it's a silly Green Party way of thinking.

What @TripleT says. Handling is crucial for Alfa. Let's see what they did on that front.

@AlexB
Triple M is Manley. His name is Michael M. Manley thus Triple M. :D

Ok but the Green way is the futur (and I think it already is).

A only available PHEV 4WD powerfull Tonale/Hornet line-up all around the world would have been much better.
