As Jeep® Brazil prepares for the launch of its all-new seven-passenger D-segment 2022 Jeep Commander SUV at the end of the month, our good friends at Autos Segredos (Auto Secrets) are filling us in with some of the last-minute details before the vehicle gets unveiled.

I going to try to be polite, cuz I think you are honest person.... NO. THE ENTIRE THING WAS HORRIBLE. The execution was horrible, the interiors were horrible. The vehicles had no distinctive character beyond the styling. Transmission was poor, the engines were worse of the shared resource. And it wasn't new, it was not creative, Chrysler had been doing since the 80s. And by glory of god it was abandoned. But Daimler having wasted Billions, most of Chryslers war chest, and took it out on Chrysler. Literally ruined the company to a point of it being hours from killed. We should look back at that time with nothing buy horror. That SM and his team were able to salvage a bit from them was a near miracle.

The reason why is the same reason these were a failure. Compromise, Compromise, Compromise, Compromise. The vehicle weren't good at anything, Nothing. They were poorly developed. The computational develop means, you don't need to do that anymore unless your just cheap. You can make a car that is more than a compromised with a styling exercise, even with common build points (platform). The real issue that past 3 models it gets complex in the pull system and manufacturing systems. Unless you have multiple lines.

Its not new or imaginative ..... it is lazy. Make a vehicle good at it task... Not a Styling exercise, PSA sort of does this already and I am NOT a fan.

Maybe it back to the confusion of what a platform is, and what a Architecture is.....
Being polite, from the receiving end is a good thing. I think we agree on most points, you do have much knowledge on this it seems, including the number of models that can be produced on a line. I still believe, under the conditions and limitations you sited, those development guys did a good job and demonstratied a degree of imagination that is praiseworthy. That does not negate the opportunity that exists, as the Brazilians have done so well, to create some notable vehicles off an available platform/architecture. I am hopeful these lessons learned can be applied to new things. I was a Daimler-Chrysler stock holder and previ to all the vicious attacks on Chrysler by mostly European interests and what they did to Chrysler was criminal, as polite as I can say it.

For the relevant European identity is FIAT because comparison is Ford given the structure keeps the family on top.

When the French Government sells their Stellantis stake, the American-British wing of the Agnelli Family:The Elkann wing together with the Peugeot Family will have 40% of Stellantis vote therefore default family control.

Now with that being stated, I will once again repeat that the 2015 direction in North America that gave the company fabulous profitability as shown last week doesn’t allow for the products & categories (in which the category have shrunk big time) that you been pushing for as they would be margin & financially dilutive.

so your saying they turned the engine? I haven't heard that.

I can say it won’t have the Pentastar or Hemi available. But it will be just a bit smaller than WL74.

The mystery Jeep line drawing shown at the EV presentation day is on the STLA large. I'm guessing at this, but I suspect the chefs in Auburns Hills have spilled a few beans. The line drawing of the Dodge Hornet does not not match the platform it sits on, because the Hornet will be on a legacy platform.

So KM is dropping the V6?

Inline 6 instead?

2.0 standard with PHEV option for higher performance. KM won't get the inline 6...I don't think inline 6 will be introduced in anything other than the Wagoneer in the near future. 2023 DT MCA perhaps. So calendar 2023/2024 for DT MCA / Wagoneer.

They will reserve inline 6 for vehicles that have $42K or higher ASP, the money makers.

You may have to wait for MCAs for Wrangler/Grand Cherokee/Grand Cherokee L /Gladiator to see the inline 6....so calendar 2025/2026 for those vehicles.

Grand Cherokee/Grand Cherokee L may also lose their ability to order 5.7 L Hemi at that time, come 2025/2026...the spin will be the inline 6 + PHEV replacement will be more powerful. Enjoy the affordable V8 option for those vehicles while it lasts, its coming to an end.

Which way does the Engine run? I if it has been turned it is a big deal and a welcome departure from the KL..... Call me pessimistic as It was nearly complete prior to merger.

That's what I was afraid of.

I did notice that the Wrangler 4Xe doesn't recommend premium according to the owner's manual on jeep.ca, so that's a nice change from the 2.0T in the KL.

Gas is more expensive than it was before COVID, so a premium fuel requirement would probably steer me away from it. I know it wouldn't use much, but it's the idea in my head.
