Model will be launched in 2021 and will have its own identity, unique name and look
The Jeep has begun road testing of its future SUV 7 seats, which will be produced in Goiana (PE). It will be positioned above the Compass and will have its own identity, although it is circulating with an altered medium SUV bodywork - as shown by the reader sent by Álvaro Matos, who photographed a test "mule" running in São Paulo. Sources linked to the manufacturer explained to Motor1.com that this is an unprecedented model, with its own name, look and even platform. The release will take place in 2021.

“The platform will be a Compass-based hybrid with a solution we have in Europe,” reveals our source, explaining that the future 7-seater Jeep , known as D-Low (for its positioning), will debut the factory's second architecture in Goiana. It should be a merger between Compass, Renegade and Toro's Small-Wide with Alfa Romeo Stelvio's Giorgio platform that will be used in several other Fiat-Chrysler cars, including the next generation Cherokee.

While working on the platform, Jeep tests the car with the elongated Compass body. Our source guarantees that it is just an early-stage test "mule" and that the car will not be an elongated Compass, as it is said to be launched in India. “It's another car. Change steering gear, suspension set and more, ”explains the informant. Your design will be different, as will the name, which will be unheard of.

Jeep: Plan 2018-2022

As the new SUV is only scheduled for 2021, it will take advantage of the new Fiat-Chrysler turbo engine lineup , receiving the all-new 1.3 Firefly turbo that already equips Compass in Europe. It was created from the aspirated Firefly made in Brazil, but with turbo, direct injection, four valves per cylinder and the MultiAir system, which manages opening and closing the intake valve. It also has new intake ducts, a head-mounted exhaust manifold and a liquid cooling system to reduce the temperature of the turbine gases.

In Europe, the 1.3 MultiAir III is offered in 150 hp and 180 hp versions, always with 27.5 kgfm touch. It can work with a dual-clutch or 9-speed automatic transmission. For Brazil, the most quoted is the AT9 which already equips Compass and Renegade in diesel versions. Incidentally, the new Jeep will also use the 2.0 Multijet turbodiesel engine, which by then must receive modifications to reduce consumption and emissions.

I see this Brazilian Motor 1 article as interesting. They say Giorgio back end, actually rear suspension scheme, on Small Wide. I don't see how they can do it although the may opt for axing rear McPherspon and switch to a more efficient packaging with a multilink. Due to rear McPherson suspension on Small Wide cars luggage space is smaller especially in its width. In addition to this they must somehow fit additional 3rd row seats.

They've also said it will be used for the next gen Cherokee.

If I can correctly remember some interviews with Brazilian FCA representatives they indeed had said that Small Wide will receive some updates for 3 row SUV.

I have something else on mind. Can this be marketed as a compact Chrysler SUV in US?
