What are the numbers you ask?

In Germany a 112% increase compared to 22Q1, in Belgium a 105% increase compared to 22Q1, in Spain a 121% increase compared to 22Q1, in France a 179.28% compared to 22Q1.
Of course, when the initial number of sales is low, it is easy to have these increases but this allows them to be comfortably ahead of Jaguar in sales.
In Germany this corresponded to 1337 units:

In Spain there were 854 units sold, 528 of which were Tonales.
In Italy there were 6535 Alfas sold in the first quarter. A modest increase of 202.97% compared to 22Q1.

It seems that the Tonale effect is real and that the restyle of the Giulia/Stelvio was well received.
If this continues until the launch of the B-SUV, sales will increase even more, and with a steady launch schedule Alfa seems on track to overcome the threat to its survival.
If some big wigs at FCA hadn't done their best to cripple the brand and kept a consistent launch schedule as announced when the Giulia and Stelvio were launched maybe Alfa wouldn't have been in this situation.
And maybe it the Tonale hadn't been delayed and the hybridization of the Stelvio and Giulia put on hold I wonder how much sales would've increased in Europe. Thanks Manley!..

Anyway, can't wait to see what will be the Hornet effect on Dodge's sales.

As much as I hate Manleys decisions for Alfa, they would have needed active development of additional models already before the Giulia got launched. If you wait to see if a model is a success until you start to design the next one, you'll always keep five year gaps between launches.

Great progress, but nothing in the UK yet. Are the RHD versions not on the street?

It might surprise some, but there are areas of the US where Alfa, Romeo is doing quite well. Living on Long Island, NY with a rather affluent suburban population, Alfa is selling well, making nice inroads in the luxury import market supported by well invested dealerships. Maybe the formula to success is to concentrate first in these types of high wealth areas like Long Island and build from there. I am not sure if this matters or not, but the largest ethnic group on LI are Italian Americans, maybe that is a factor to acceptance of this brand. In my opinion the second need is more and larger size products. If you want to go head to head with BMW and Mercedes, the mainstay brands here, you need the same range of products and Alfa has a long way to go for that to happen

I had a 2019 Guilia and I thought it was a really nice car. It was fun to drive and got lots of looks wherever I went. I came out of a 2018 Challenger R/T into the Guilia and I enjoyed it just as much as the Challenger. The only complaint that I had was with the electronics. They were harder to figure out than the Uconnect systems that I was used to, but once I learned how to operate them they were adequate. If I ever get the chance, I would like to try a Stelvio or a Tonale.

My son owns both a Challenger Scat Pack and a Stelvio Volece. Two very different cars. Hard to equate in my opinion.

I am not trying to equate the 2 cars. I did enjoy both cars and maybe I enjoyed the Guilia more because it was different. I had 3 Challenger R/T's in a row, a 2016, 2017 and 2018. It was time for a change. I like driving different cars. That may be because I have been driving company cars since 1987 and they are replaced every year with the current model. I am currently driving a 2022 Charger GT AWD and I have an order in for a 2023 Jeep Compass. See what I mean about different cars, lol.

Got it. I like both these cars, have driven both. My son got out of a Mercedes for the Alfa in a leap of faith since, like me, he is a Mopar guy. I’m a big advocate of Dodge and Alfa Romeo and also Chrysler and Maserati sharing re engineered spin offs platforms like the Hornet. What is your thoughts on that ?

I like that idea also, in fact if I could have, I would have ordered a Hornet instead of the Compass. The reason that I ordered the Compass was to try the new powertrain. I have been retired since 2001, so ordering different cars every year gives me a chance to keep my hand in and see what is going with the vehicles that are being produced. The Company Car Program used to allow us to order whatever we wanted, but now it is limited to the vehicles that they select for us to pick from. Sometimes I can't get exactly what I want, but there is usually a good selection. I have already had 2 Chargers, 2 300s, and 3 Challengers so I am quite familiar with those. I also had 3 Grand Cherokees and I like those, but I don't really need such a big vehicle anymore since I am by myself and I am the only person that rides in them. Time to think smaller. I have only put 3500 km on the Charger since I got it last June, so I am not driving very much either.

If the Hornet has the same impact in Dodge's sales as it did on Alfa Romeo, it's going to do wonders to Dodge sales numbers. Who knows, maybe they'll start launching more affordable models if it is successful.

Alfa's complete registration numbers for the EU are in: +200% in March, +150% in Q1. Close to 12,000 cars in 2023 now. Not so bad compared to 2022!

The resurrection continues! But the percentage increases should fall now, since the Tonale came to market in June 2022 in Europe.

Alfa Romeo posts record-breaking global business results in the first 6 months of 2023

  • Alfa Romeo ends the first half of 2023 with exceptional figures: globally, registrations are up 57%.
  • The same result in Europe indicated a 100% increase over the same period in 2022.
