Alfa Romeo's number one Tim Kuniskis has confirmed that Alfa Romeo 8C will be made, even if he has not specified when this will happen. The model is part of the 2018-2022 business plan and the model is expected by the end of this plan.
The car will not only have a petrol engine. The new 8C will be electrified to exceed 700 hp, just enough to tear up the classic 0-100 acceleration in less than 3 ". Like the "super" supercars on the planet. An exclusive car that will have an endothermic engine (petrol biturbo) centered in a monocoque carbon body, so as to have a very low weight.

I heard this was to be FMR, not RMR as indicated by the picture. The 8C has always been a Front-Mid Mounted Rear drive car.

Currently, Mopar Insiders sources have this as FMR, assembly line built, unknown engine, rear wheel drive, two seat coupe/convertible/spider. The engine is could use an FCA engine that is re-engineered by Ferrari, or a straight up Ferrari engine. It’s currently due, at the earliest, at the end of 2020 CY—more likely 2021/22CY.

We have been told it is to share a platform (re: dimensions), with a similar, yet distinct Maserati-Gran Tourismo, and a Dodge Not-A-Viper. Each car is supposed to have its own engine, it’s own parts, and it’s own personality. The Maser’ GTO would be the Italian exotic grand tourer it has always been. The Alfa 8C would be the prototypical Italian sports car, with ultra-refined handling—designed to please the driver. The Dodge Not-A-Viper would be the sledgehammer of the group, the knuckle dragging, muscle bound, American super-jock of the group, and with access to engines potentially well over 900hp by then, it very well could be.

According to plans Alfa 4C is a starting point. Clearly it's a RMR.

Yes. They had FMR option. But that will be used for Maserati Alfieri which is clearly based on a Ferrari Portofino.

SO 8C will be a stand-alone limited run model if 4C is starting point. I have been thinking that if Ferrari isn't bringing in a Dino to compete with 911s I can't imagine why Maserati have a smaller mid-engined car (Merak/Bora) that competes here. A FMR Alfieri will likely be more GT-ish than sports car that the 911 is.
