2021-10-10 - Drove by Jefferson North / Mack - Thousands of Vehicles on the Lots

I drove by JNAP + Mack on Sunday - there are thousands of vehicles parked in the lots there - mix of Grand Cherokee L, Rams, Grand Wagoneers, and WK2 Grand Cherokee. My guess is that all of these vehicle lack chips - makes no sense why these vehicles are parked there without being shipped out seeing how the lack of inventory at dealerships.

Here is the $64,000 question - my guess is that they are waiting for a surplus of chips to retrofit the vehicles that have already been built. But Stellantis might be waiting a long time - the chips that arrive are sent directly to the line/production, as its easier to install in a vehicle rolling down the line that it is to open an assembled vehicle up and install chips into it.

currently because its the only way to get things in a timely fashion. Shipping lanes are completely backed up. It taking roughly the same time it used to take by sea to get something shipped even by DHL. I am living through it right now.

I assume you are referencing WL74 production, which started just recently.

But why are there thousands of Grand Cherokee L's (WL75) parked around JNAP and Mack then? Do those assembled vehicles have chips in them or not? My venture is that they do not. It doesn't make sense why in a low inventory environment why you would have thousands of these vehicles parked around the plant, unless they can't be sold.
