2019 Chevy Camaro SS and V6 models get worse fuel economy
The other models stay the same

When a new car is updated and refreshed, it usually nets minor improvements in nearly every area. That doesn't appear to be the case with the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro sports car. The EPA has posted fuel economy for each version of the Chevy Camaro at FuelEconomy.gov, and a few of them actually became worse for the new model year.

The most surprising decrease is found with the 2019 Chevy Camaro SS with an automatic. One of the major changes for 2019 SS was the inclusion of the 10-speed automatic found in the ZL1. With more ratios, one would expect an improvement in fuel economy. Instead, highway fuel economy remains the same at 27 mpg, while city fuel economy dropped from 17 to 16 mpg. The manual-equipped 2019 Camaro SS also experienced a drop in fuel efficiency. It's city economy stays at 16 mpg, but the highway number dips down to 24 mpg from last year's 25.

The V8-powered SS isn't the only Camaro variant to see fuel economy losses. The 2019 Camaro with a V6 and a manual transmission loses one mile per gallon in highway mileage for a total of 27 mpg. The city rating of 16 mpg is unchanged. As for the rest of the 2019 Camaro lineup, including the turbocharged four-cylinder, V6 with an automatic, and the supercharged V8-powered ZL1, they all have the same fuel economy ratings as they did for 2018.

Hah, I can't help but feel that the Camaro is a huge miss. I didn't like the 5th Gen, definitely don't like the 6th and really don't like the refresh. 6th gen sales are also down compared to 5th gens and the Challenger is outselling the Camaro year to date as of GMs second quarter sales reports this year.

I like the refresh for the simple fact that it looks unique. It's not something I'd call attractive, but it definitely looks menacing and polarizing in SS trim.

SS looks better in Satin Steel. It would be even better with black wheels though since the silver wheels kind of clash with the black front end.

But in terms of modernized muscle cars, nothing beats this design IMO, even if it is a sedan. I even ordered a poster of this picture for my office:

The Camaro is odd in that the chassis and powertrains are (SS and above at least) are top notch. Yet it still seems nobody wants them, I think it really boils down to styling. Even the most hardcore Camaro fans don't seem to like the look, and yet here GM is spreading that look across their lineup.

I think it’s also related to how impractical and tight these cars are.

Definitely true as well, I think a lot has to do with the poor sightlines. I wouldn't really say it would be any more impractical than say a Mustang, I think the Challenger is more practical just do to the extra interior room and usable back seat.

There's something seriously "Anti-Hero" about this picture IMHO.

I like the aggression of the Camaro's styling, but it's overdone (especially the front). I think the Camaro design team should look back at classic Camaro styling a draw more inspiration from them. Rather than "interpret" them into what they've currently got.
