Picked this up about a month ago.
6.4l HEMI 4x4.

Truck works great. Had to get a hitch with a greater drop, it it tows our camper with ease.

The 392 HEMI has been a great replacement for my 488 MAGNUM.

It is a bit of a change towing with the automatic, but I am catching on to its quirks.

Absolutely do not know how I live without an 8 foot bed.

Nice. My company cars have always been four door cabs with 8 foot beds. You’ll get totally over hoping curbs after about a week.

Sumbitches are looong.

I love it. It is actually easier to maneuver than the 2013 shortbed we had. With the back up camera and park sense I have pit this thing places I would have never even tried.

I just wish other drivers would understand it is easier to back into spots. They really cannot grasp what reverse lights mean. They seem to think they mean get closer.

Towing the camper is much easier with the longbed and more comfortable.

You do have to pay a little more attention to turns, but no curbs have been harmed in the love of this truck.

Been camping a few more times. It is funny how after decades of driving a manual transmission, that I actually have to "learn" how to drive an automatic.

The 6 speed is definitely the handicap of the 6.4l. But, it is learning my driving habits and I am learning how to get it to do what I want.

I wish the gear selector not only limited up shifts but also downshifts.

This truck has plenty of grunt but the span between 1st 2nd and 3rd is so wrong forthe power.

I select 3rd to pull up the mountain and it will lug along til you give to much throttle and bam...into 1st.

I tried using 2nd last time...made things worse. On the way home I just left it alone and found getting in the throttle and having it downshift before the hill and staying in the throttle gave what i wanted...but sometimes I was just moving too fast...it sure does have the grunt.

Going again Friday...gonna see how well it does with the new approach going up.

This trip I had all kinds of extra room in that 8 foot bed...gona have to take more toys to fill it lol

I don't think Ram going to the 8 speed for the 19 HDs can be understated. It is really a big improvement. Not that the 6 speed is worthless, just not ideal for the HD 6.4.

I almost ended up in a SRW 3500 6.4 with 4.10s. Liked the test drive. Glad i ended up in a 1500 for now but i'll likely end up in a used 2019 or 2020 HD after 5 years.

Is the ride what you expected? I'm sure the long wheelbase and 8' bed is really nice.

Yes, very good ride. The 8 foot bed is life changing. The truck actually makes hauling the camper easier from towing to parking.

The coil spring rear definitely makes for a great ride, and takes the load better than my 2013 with leaf springs.

I have to keep myself away from the 8 speed. So far I am not disappointed with the 6 speed, just not overly impressed.

I sure do love that sound of the HEMI over the clatter of the Cummins.

Fuel mileage is right at 13...which is less than the 17 with the Cummins, but much better thathan the 9.5 with the V10

Nice pickup. I've got the same setup in a 12. I really wanted the 6.4 and the coil suspension of the 14, but i didnt want to pay the extra cost at the time.

I'm really thinking of going to a short box next time, but dont really want too. I've got plans for a 5th wheel and some atv's. I dont want a toy hauler, so I would end up haulling two trailers. In Texas my maximum length is 65'. I can do that with the trailer I want as long as I have a short box. The atv trailer has to be pretty small also. Most of the other states I drive through have a 75' length so a long box would work fine.

Some more offroading done. Wife said it wouldn't fit down the path, my son said show her dad. I do not like to disappoint my son.

Hit the dirt roads again this weekend20191103_134004.jpg
Wanted to show my son the fire tower but the gate was closed so we hiked into it20191103_130825.jpg
And then it too had a fence around it, so we didn't get to enjoy the view, although the wind storms last week took all the fall foliage with it.20191103_131410.jpg20191103_134324.jpg
And my son wanted me to climb up this hill, so we let the big girl stretch20191103_134811.jpg

Realized I haven't been here for a while. Still using this HeftyDuty how they were intended.

I have used it to haul away my whole camp we tore down. We tow the travel trailer most weekend. We started "overlanding" with it.

First major repair was done. At 139599 the passenger wheel bearing got replaced.

And I just did a swap of wheels/tires from our 3rdGen that has been sitting more than moving.

Will post some updates soon.
