Does anyone know how to disable the MDS? I see a lot of negative opinions posted throughout many Dodge forums regarding the MDS. Thanks!

Which vehicle?

MDS is not noticeable on my durango so i let it do its thing.

MDS is noticeable on my Ram. I simply use the steering wheel gear select buttons and select 8th. MDS deactivates

Think it goes off when sport mode is active. You could get a Tazer and set sport mode to default on so you don't have to manually activate it every ignition cycle.

I didn't like it either when I had a 2017 Charger Scat Pack and a 2017 Ram 1500. The sound of it switching in and out of 4-cylinder mode was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Mine is a 2016. I thought the MDS was disabled in Sport Mode, but wasn’t sure. I drive it in Sport Mode most of the time, but would like to disable it.

You'd like to disable MDS without it defaulting to sport mode? Don't think you can do that with a Tazer. I know some of the Diablo tuners can turn off MDS, but IIRC those are more expensive than a Tazer.

That's what I was thinking as well. I drive it in sport mode most of the time anyway. I sure don't want to spend that much $$$ on a tuner just for disabling the MDS. Thanks, Ryan!

Exactly what is the problem with MDS mode? It automatically goes from 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders? I had heard that if in MDS mode that it wears out the engine faster.
I understand that leaving it in performance mode will eliminate the MDS mode and wearing out engine faster.
Is all of the above true?

Until recently, had a 2006 Charger Daytona 5.7 for 15+ years with MDS. Car had 125K miles and I kept the MDS active the entire time. I can tell you from 1st hand experience that there was NO abnormal wear on the engine due to MDS. I also had a few mods to it (CAI, exhaust, 180 deg. thermostat, and a Diablo Sport Predator tuner, to name a few). Depending on the type of aftermarket exhaust, with MDS enabled, it can cause some drone, but other than that, I never saw a reason to disable it. I could be cruising at 80 mph on 4 cyl., saving some fuel. Unless you have a TON of mods, including an aftermarket cam, why disable it??? Disabling it because of unsubstantiated rumors or other guy's gripes is kind of silly. It has no adverse affect on performance.

So on a factory stock car if you leave it in performance mode you run on all 8 cylinders? If in ECO mode it's always 4 cylinders? What happens if you need passing power in an instant ??? o_O
You must notice some kind of difference when you switch car over to performance mode.

Startup Drive Mode: Like driving in Sport or Track mode every time you get in your car? Tazer can set the startup drive mode for you, so you don’t need to switch modes every time you get in the car.

If the car is in Sport or Track mode, MDS is shut off. Tazer will allow the car to start up each time in Sport and Track, ditching the MDS feature

Great so no need to spend more $$$🤑 and just keep it in Sport or Track mode. Extra $$$ for gas or Expel😁

Hubba hubba! Thanks for the info. I forgot that putting the car in sport mode disabled the MDS. Either I'm getting too old or had a brain fart!

By doing this it will eliminate the MDS engine problem?
