Banshee was cancelled according to Bob and other sources. I haven't heard any recent rumors updating the V8s. And their public messaging is that V8s are being sun-setted for Dodge.

As for BEV people need to speak with there vote. EPA and Several states have basically back the manufacturers in the corner. Frankly I think the end game is end to private transport, but they are playing the game as it as the rules are written now.

I am also not convinced the V8 is dead, just on a temp hiatus.

Voting won’t help. It could have helped with other stuffs.
Public transportation in Europe can work, but not for the American continent.
In the 70’s when the American V8’s were beaten by the imports, it still existed though it was very un-efficient and un-sufficient.
This time around, it’s slowly disappearing.

Work was already done, but the shift to electrification canceled it.

I read elsewhere, from someone I believe was at one time on the inside, that Ram has been working on a new 7.5L V8 for the upcoming new/refreshed HD Rams in the next year or two. That post was from 2 years ago just after Ford unveiled their new 7.3L V8.

So it is entirely possible that when they say "The Hemi" is going away, they are specifically speaking about the current "Hemi" engine family.

Maybe the 7.5L is an entirely new engine family, and they intend to use a different engine name, like maybe going back to "Magnum."

Maybe they abandoned the Banshee due to it not matching up well for the needs of the new HD Rams.

So if that's the case, they are being truthful, and have zero reason to talk about this new engine. The current generation muscle cars and engines deserves to go out with some fanfare rather than being stepped on by the next big thing.

Once the new engine debuts in the new HD Rams, just as the new muscle cars are supposed to come out, they can let the media and public go nuts about putting two together.

Not only would that be smart marketing, but right now there is a lot of hype around battery electric everything. Maybe a year or two from now, things will settle down a bit, and the timing will be better to introduce a big honking V8 in at least one high end trim level of their new muscle cars.

By the way, I have zero inside info, I'm just putting a theory out there that sort of makes some sense, at least to me.

I was told the H.O 3.0L killed the 426. The small bump in cubes from 392 to 426 is likely what the hemi needed to produce the same 510 hp NA, which sounds crazy when you see what ford just did with the 5.0L in the dark horse. But before that even the 7.0L LS7 only made 505hp and the only NA V8 to beat it (at the time) was the AMG DOHC 6.2L @ 518hp. Related - Mercedes says they will continue making V8's through 2030...

HO requires 93 Octane 🙄

The Mustang V8 has shamed them - the upcoming Charger/Challenger are DOA unless it has PHEV. If they think this consumer group is interested in BEVs, they are mistaken.

I don't see dodges new inline H.O being a threat to the new mustang upgraded 5.0 v8. Unless these next gen challenger/charger has some serious weight reduction...someone at dodge dropped the ball and lost it!!... Ford just beat them at there own game...PATHETIC!!!

The next chance they get to maybe correct the situation without egg on their face and totally piss off all these foo-, I meant to say, "enthusiasts" who are buying all these "limited edition" L cars is to re-add the V8 when they are up for a mid-cycle refresh...but that won't be until 2028, at the earliest. They really backed themselves into a corner telegraphing they were going to cancel the V8 and then Ford took advantage of the situation.

Trust me when I say this decision to end the V8 wasn't made by anyone in engineering. It was Tavares and European "leadership". They're killing Dodge by using a dated I6 design. This is really shameful and the truth needs to get out into the public realm - Tavares and his cronies are to blame. They made the call on cancelling the 7L and moving forward with the dated I6. It's on them.

If the 426 was going to make 510hp which is the same as the HO 3.0l, I wonder if the fuel efficiency wasn’t less than 1-2 mpg improvement or if the emissions were worse to get cancelled.

Mustang’s 5.0l breathes better due to the multiple valve design, but it would make more horsepower but less torque.
As they say, horsepower sells, torque wins races.

Turbo engines tend to have better power curves.

Maybe they don’t like the idea of a big old V8, and they think getting the same power from a 4 or 6 cylinder engine is more modern and efficient.
EPA numbers for the 3.0l engines showed that is not particularly true

The 500hp 5.0L is only in a limited model, and I am pretty sure they will match the H.O with the new ZF8 that has the 320hp motor in it, now its 830~HP which IMO would be the new scat pack. Banshee would be the full EV purely to sack the Tesla plaid that runs 9.20's. It will very likely be an 8 second car with 1350~ HP.

In that application. Let see it when it put into something that doesn't require the turbos to spool constantly

Highway MPG could have been even better with the 7L because it would stay in 4cyl mode longer. I am sure the 3.0L will be better overall depending how much boost it makes, which I assume will be a lot. But at even 15psi it'll burn the same amount of fuel as a 6.0L V8, and its probably over 20psi.

whatever gains you’d have in highway MPG would be offset by terrible city mileage. Plus, it would be a much heavier engine.

Yes but dont expect stellar numbers from the H.O either, the TT 2.9L in the Giulia only gets 17 city. Thats a light car all considering too.

I would not think it would be too much of a weight difference if we compare the 7.0l against the 3.0l with the turbos and intercooler.

Well the Current Apache weighs 585lb dress versus 441lbs for the HD Hurricane. I'd assume the 7.0L would weigh similarly if not more. 140lbs is nothing to laugh at and no way you can call that similar.

The Hurricane sixes, as installed in the Wagoneers, don't have the mild hybrid setup the 5.7 Hemi uses. It will be interesting to see which hybrid options are offered with the new sixes for the various vehicle lines. I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the Hurricane six, because we don't know what else is in the pipeline.

Eagle is a old engine at this point, That Hybrid system was more of a second thought. Dismissing the Hurricane six is pretty silly, so would going all over Social Media complaining about it as it at this point is a better powerplant. For the V8s to return they will have to be heavily revised. But they aren't going to talk about that at this point cuz they are creating urgency around the Last of the Brampton cars.
