[SPECULATION] All EVs cancelled - Recon, Wagoneer S, Charger, Wagoneer REEV, Ram REEV - All Done

Let’s set the record straight—despite recent speculation, the EV programs at Dodge, Jeep®, and Ram are still moving forward, though at a slightly slower pace due to current consumer demand favoring ICE vehicles.

During my recent conversations with Dodge CEO Matt McAlear and Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, they confirmed that EV plans remain on track, with the understanding that global markets play a critical role. For example:

  • The Jeep Recon is expected to replace the slower‑selling Wrangler in Europe.
  • The Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV are planned for exports to Australia and select European markets.
  • The Dodge Charger Daytona will continue into 2026 in Scat Pack form and will expand into the Canadian and European markets, where EV adoption continues to grow.
In short, while U.S. demand may be guiding production pace, these vehicles have international markets that ensure their continued relevance and rollout. I should add, this is on top of their U.S. rollouts.

Exactly zero of the markets you’ve cited can sustain the actual and opportunity costs for these vehicles on a program basis.

It’s all hands on deck to get some 5.7, 6.4, and Hellcat engine production stateside, and to rip most of the stuff out of Dundee and stand up production of the Hemi for 2027 MY vehicles. They are constrained by Hemi production in Saltillo.

Maybe ask them again at Roadkill nights because the plans have changed.

Take a look at the stock price today vs a month ago, post-earnings. The company has lost 15% of its value and is bleeding cash. It is cauterizing the cash bleed (EVs).

It’s important to understand the reasoning behind these moves. Bringing the HEMI back to the market before launching the Ramcharger was a strategic decision. Producing 40,000 units of HEMI-powered vehicles provides a quick and cost‑effective solution to meet demand and maintain excitement within the lineup.

Meanwhile, the Jeep Recon has experienced delays due to tariffs, not due to a lack of interest. Similarly, the Charger Daytona R/T was postponed not because of poor sales, but because profit margins were heavily impacted by tariffs. The Dodge Hornet faces a similar situation.

The reality is that tariffs and international market dynamics play a significant role in the timing and strategy for vehicle launches. So, take what you see on YouTube with caution—there’s often more behind the scenes than what’s presented online.

When it comes to the quick fixes Antonio Filosa is implementing, the goal is simple: drive sales and generate revenue quickly.

Unlike Carlos Tavares, who followed a limited-production strategy—producing fewer vehicles to drive up prices and save money by running fewer shifts—Filosa understands that volume sells. His approach mirrors the successful FCA-era formula and the volume strategy used by GM and Ford.

The return of SRT plays a critical role in this plan, not only creating halo vehicles that excite the market but also bringing higher profit margins. I highlighted this strategy in a recent video on my “The Mopar Junkie” channel, following the investor meeting where Filosa officially announced the TRX is returning.

Here’s the strategy in motion:

  • Small, high-impact launches like the Ram 1500 Express, Ram 2500 Express, and Ram 2500 Warlock create fast revenue streams.
  • Key product launches like the Dodge Charger SIXPACK and the next-generation Jeep Cherokee are volume drivers that expand market share.
  • Immediate fixes like the HEMI return in the Ram 1500 are low-cost solutions to capture demand and drive excitement.
Filosa has also been candid that not having direct replacements for discontinued models—including the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Ram 1500 Classic, Ram ProMaster City, Jeep Cherokee, and Jeep Renegade—has hurt sales and profits, driving loyal customers to competing brands. He knows these gaps must be filled quickly to keep momentum.

The proof is already there: on opening day alone, Ram saw 10,000 units ordered for the aging 5.7-liter HEMI, showing that the volume approach works. But not every vehicle can return immediately due to regulatory requirements. For example:

  • The Ram 1500 was able to bring the HEMI back quickly, but only after updating the electrical architecture.
  • Emissions and compliance rules allow a one-year grace period to return a previously offered powertrain without major changes.
  • Larger vehicles like the Grand Wagoneer, Wagoneer, and Grand Cherokee will take longer to reintroduce HEMI options because they’ve been out of production for over a year.
At the Chrysler Carlisle Nationals, Chris Feuell confirmed the brand is exploring a sub‑$30,000 vehicle, while Matt McAlear shared late last year that Dodge is targeting a $30,000 sports car. Tim Kuniskis is driving forward the new mid‑size Ram truck to replace the 1500 Classic, and Bob Broderdorf will launch all‑new Compass and Renegade models by 2027.

Filosa’s approach is clear:

  1. Fix small gaps fast to generate cash.
  2. Drive volume and regain market share with accessible, profitable models.
  3. Use that cash to fund new product launches and prepare for future market shifts.
If tariffs with Canada can be resolved, interest rates come down, and new emissions regulations are delayed, Filosa could realistically turn the company around in as little as 16 months.
 
Everything you’re saying is from a financial picture of the company that has since passed, and subsequently deteriorated, quickly - in the matter of 60 days. 16 months is too late for a turnaround. They need a turnaround in 12 months. Again, turnaround is constrained by Hemi production.

The focus is on profit generating vehicles to reverse the cash burn. The Hemi is the powertrain to do that. It’s that simple. This is about cash / profit generation as quickly as possible. The company cannot afford an additional bond downgrade, for example, because then it comes more expensive to finance net new debt. Once you’re in that situation things get bad, very quickly.

I don’t think any you truly realize how bad the financial situation for Stellantis is right now. We’re talking a year 2007 situation. But it doesn’t have the pension debt this time around.

If you don’t believe me, call up a Wall Street Analayst like Adam Jonas or Ryan Brinkman at JP Morgan. They may not know the nuts and bolts of product like we do, but they can read a balance sheet and income statement.

If Ram follows the same formula for the midsize Ram as they had with the Classic, they will have a winner on their hands. It was possible to find reasonably priced Classic models on the lots because Ram didn't go wild with the option list and trim packages.

As far as the topic at hand, I'm of the opinion that a Recon with a ICE range extender would sell well in our market. Of the current battery electric models, only the Wagoneer S is in serious trouble because it doesn't offer any IC engine options. Even that can be remedied since it shares much engineering with the next Cherokee.

Four years ago the Wall Street analysts were saying Toyota was doomed because hybrids were dead and that company was way behind on battery electric. Fifty years ago I was involved in building the tooling for the engine of the future, GM's Wankel rotary engine.
 
If you believe the company’s entire future depends on a 22‑year‑old engine, that simply isn’t true. Stellantis is in the middle of a strategic repositioning, focusing first on generating revenue to stabilize operations and then gearing up for long‑term growth.

Filosa has already stated that the company will showcase the future direction for all its brands during Capital Markets Day in Q1 2026. Until then, Stellantis continues to face the same market pressures as GM and Ford, even with some regulatory cutbacks providing short‑term relief. The real challenges remain high interest rates that are slowing consumer demand and the ongoing tariffs with Canada, which are impacting pricing and product timing.

Until those economic pressures ease, the immediate strategy is clear: make money now, secure cash flow, and prepare for the company’s future.
 
If the Hemi isn’t the single most important factor to the short term company future, why was Elkan on the phone with Trump to remove CAFE fines?
 
It takes this company so long to get a vehicle to market that people literally forget about them. Example: they started talking about the Jeep Recon what, 3 years ago? 4? We saw the pictures. We heard the base stats on it. Then, crickets. Where is it? I've totally forgotten about it.

They do this with every single new vehicle they come up with. By the time it actually makes it to production (IF it makes it to production) the market has changed and people have moved on.

I, too, have seen the credible reports this week that they are postponing all EV programs indefinitely. But, by the time they get any ICE vehicles that people actually care about on dealer lots it'll be 2028 and EV will be the talk again.

Following this company is maddening.
 
I miss when Jeep was Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee. All these POS rebadged small SUV’s are a real drag. Recon? Talk about a vehicle no one cares about
 
In my experience, nothing kills a message board faster than allowing political stuff...unless it's a board about politics, of which there a many online, and that discussion should be taken there (IMHO).

I have seen people get nasty with each other on the basis of politics, when it was clear to me that both people AGREED on the politics. They were both soo blinded by anger that they didn't realize that it had become a circular firing squad.

Not calling anyone in particular out, but just making a plea to everyone to please not ruin this great place!

I like and appreciate this post, but I just want to say that I really, REALLY hope this board doesn't go the way of Allpar, where everything became waaay too political.

In my experience, nothing kills a message board faster than allowing political stuff...unless it's a board about politics, of which there a many online, and that discussion should be taken there (IMHO).

I have seen people get nasty with each other on the basis of politics, when it was clear to me that both people AGREED on the politics. They were both soo blinded by anger that they didn't realize that it had become a circular firing squad.

I don't care who you voted for. It makes literally no difference to me whether you're part of the redhats or the blueballs. i don't care. Keep it to yourself. You aren't convincing anyone to agree with you or your political views by throwing someone elses name around with every post. We get it. It's like religion. Don't try to convert me, it won't go well for you but you can go right ahead worshiping whoever the hell you want to. That's how the country works.
 
There was someone who photographed ReEV testing at Silver Lake dunes (MI) just recently (Aug 04 was the post on a Facebook group but undetermined when the photo was taken). Is it continued testing (camp @redriderbob ) or engineers getting the last hurrah on the vehicles before they are commandeered (camp @cygnus ).

They appear to be in the company of an camo SUV and some ICE based vehicles (RHO?) There clearly is some information floating around out there and wires surly getting crossed as I have 3rd hand information that order banks open up late Fall now (yes we heard this before) while others get information that in a week or so all BEV will be ceased .

Either way - some people are making some difficult decisions and history is watching....
 
Ram REEV is sitting in a Aptiv’s HQ parking lot in Troy, uncamo’ed. Doesn’t mean it’s being built.

Not surprised based on the way this vehicle has been handled - marked a year in advance. Some kind of marketing or launch experiment to see if you share the information enough in advance does it change the way people talk about it or show interest?
