The Chrysler Pacifica has once again claimed its spot as the best-selling minivan in the United States. According to Stellantis’s Q4 2024 sales report, Chrysler sold 107,356 Pacifica units last year, maintaining its lead in a competitive market.
When combined with the reintroduced Chrysler Voyager, which added 12,033 units after its September 2024 retail relaunch, Chrysler moved a total of 119,389 minivans in 2024. While this represents an 11% decrease in Pacifica sales compared to 2023, the brand’s dominance in the minivan segment remains clear.
Minivan Market Overview –
Chrysler’s minivans outperformed the Honda Odyssey, which sold 80,293 units in 2024, a 7.4% increase from the previous year. Honda’s family hauler continues to rely solely on a V6 engine, lacking all-wheel drive (AWD) or hybrid options.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Sienna, a hybrid-only model, saw sales rise 12.8% in 2024 to secure third place. With its efficient inline-four engine and available AWD, the Sienna remains a popular choice for fuel-conscious buyers.
The Kia Carnival rounded out the segment with a record-breaking 49,726 units sold, up 14% from 2023. Its hybrid variant also made waves, offering impressive fuel economy at 33 miles per gallon combined, just shy of the Sienna’s 36 mpg.
Model | Units Sold | % Change vs. 2023 |
---|---|---|
Chrysler Pacifica | 107,356 | -11% |
Chrysler Voyager | 12,033 | N/A (Retail Resumed in 2024) |
Honda Odyssey | 80,293 | +7.4% |
Toyota Sienna | 73,982 | +12.8% |
Kia Carnival | 49,726 | +14% |
Pacifica’s Versatility Stands Out –
The Chrysler Pacifica’s enduring appeal lies in its versatility. It’s the only minivan on the market offering both a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain and AWD (though not together). The gas-only Pacifica starts at $42,450 for the Select FWD model, while the AWD version begins at $45,445.
For those seeking efficiency, the Pacifica Hybrid delivers up to 32 miles (51 kilometers) of all-electric range and achieves 30 mpg (7.8 liters/100 km) in hybrid mode. While it lacks an AWD option, its eco-friendly credentials make it a standout choice.
Challenges and Opportunities –
Despite its leadership, Chrysler faces challenges. Overall, minivan sales remain far below the top-selling SUVs like Toyota’s RAV4, which moved 475,193 units in 2024. Still, Chrysler’s ability to hold its ground in a shrinking segment highlights its commitment to delivering family-focused vehicles with advanced technology and practicality.
As the minivan market evolves, Chrysler’s dual approach of offering both value-focused models like the Voyager and innovative options like the Pacifica Hybrid ensures the brand remains a key player in this niche segment.
