RECALL: Maserati Recalls 56 Units Of Its MC20 Super Sportscar Due To Taillight Issue!

Flickering Taillamps Fail To Meet Federal Requirements...

Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling 56 units of its 2022 MC20 super sportscars in the United States. According to the recall, the brake lights of the cars may malfunction by unintentionally flickering due to faulty rear tail lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

The malfunction is due to faulty rear tail lamp assemblies containing printed circuit boards (“PCBs”) with an alternate MOSFET transistor that flickers under certain braking conditions. The suspect period was determined by using vehicle production records and was determined to be built between Friday, November 5th, 2021, when the suspect taillamp assemblies were introduced into vehicle production, and Monday, February 28th, 2022, when the plant corrected the issue on the production line.

Maserati states that similar vehicles that are not included in the recall were built before or after the suspect period or were built with tail lamps containing PCBs with the specified MOSFET.

Recall Chronology:

  • On February 23rd, 2022, during a Plant test drive, Maserati discovered the issue on 2 vehicles with the tail lamps flickering and immediately opened an internal investigation and involved the parts supplier for analysis.
  • In late February and Early March 2022, Maserati reviewed supplier and vehicle production records to determine if vehicles with suspect tail lamp assemblies had been delivered outside of Maserati’s control.
  • On March 16, 2022, Maserati S.p.A presented the issue to its Technical Team.
  • On March 22, 2022, Maserati S.p.A through the Regional Technical Team confirmed the need to discuss the issue of potential FMVSS noncompliance with the Vehicle Regulation Committee.
  • On April 11, 2022, Maserati S.p.A determined, through its Vehicle Regulation Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles for noncompliance with FMVSS 108.
