Stellantis Recalls Certain 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit Models

IP-Mounted Shifter Could Come Out Of Gear...

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 125 units of its 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit (WD) vehicles equipped with the instrument panel-mounted (IP-mounted) shifter.

2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit HEMI AWD. (Dodge).

According to the recall, the shifter may experience interference with the shifter boot and come out of gear while driving, resulting in a sudden loss of drive power and increasing the crash risk. This is due to shift assemblies that may have been built with interference with the shifter boot when placed in the drive position.

The suspect period began on April 26, 2023, when suspect shifter boots were introduced in vehicle production, and ended on May 4, 2023, when suspect shifter boots were no longer used in vehicle production. Vehicle production and supplier records were used to determine the suspect period.

Similar vehicles not included in this recall were built before or after the suspect period or were not equipped with an IP-mounted shifter.

Recall Chronology –

  • On June 26, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation into 2023 MY Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicles built with an IP-mounted shifter that has a high durometer shifter boot that impedes fully seating in the shifter’s drive detent.
  • From June 2023 through August 2023, FCA US TSRC conducted an analysis of loss of motive power patterns and vehicle history and determined that the affected vehicles were equipped with an IP-mounted shifter and determined that the shifter boot was the origin of the loss of motive power.
  • As of September 5, 2023, FCA US is aware of zero customer assistance records, two warranty claims, and zero field reports potentially related to this issue for all markets, with dates of receipt ranging from May 15, 2023, through June 15, 2023.
  • As of September 5, 2023, FCA US is unaware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
  • On September 11, 2023, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
