AUCTION: 1965 Plymouth Barracuda with 392 HEMI® Power

Classic Style Meets Modern Performance in This Unique Auction Listing...

A beautifully modified 1965 Plymouth Barracuda fastback, equipped with a powerful 6.4-liter (392 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 engine, has been listed on BringATrailer.com. Bidding for this unique vehicle will close on Monday, August 5, at 2:59 p.m. EDT.

This Barracuda was acquired by its current owner in 2015 and has undergone significant upgrades to enhance both performance and aesthetics. Originally finished in Medium Red (TT1) from the factory, the car has been repainted under previous ownership, retaining its classic appeal while introducing a modern touch with its vivid red exterior. The fastback design, curved rear glass panel, tinted windows, chrome bumpers, and distinctive HEMI Barracuda badging contribute to its timeless look. Despite its age, only minor chips and scratches are noted in the paint.

Under the hood, the modern 392 HEMI® V8, manufactured in 2012, takes center stage. This engine produces an impressive 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, delivering power efficiently to the rear wheels through a NAG1 5-speed automatic transmission and a Moser 9-inch rear axle fitted with an Eaton limited-slip differential. Enhancing the engine’s performance are heat-wrapped stainless-steel headers, a stainless fuel tank, and an aluminum radiator with an electric fan.

The Barracuda’s handling is improved with a Reilly MotorSports AlterKtion front suspension and Street-Lynx rear suspension, providing a smoother and more controlled ride. The Flaming River power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system ensures precise handling, while Ridetech front coilovers and Viking Performance rear coilovers offer adjustable damping for a customized driving experience. The car sits on American Racing 17-inch wheels wrapped in Kumho Ecsta PS31 tires, with sizes 215/45 at the front and 245/40 at the rear. Braking is managed by unassisted Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners, ensuring reliable stopping power.

Inside, the Barracuda boasts a reupholstered black and red vinyl interior, featuring front bucket seats and a rear bench seat. The color-coordinated center console, lap belts, aftermarket speakers, carpeted floor mats, and a retro-style digital stereo add to the cabin’s appeal. While the dashboard has some scratches, it houses an AutoMeter 120-mph speedometer, an inset tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows less than 200 miles, though the true chassis mileage remains unknown. Notably, the battery has been relocated to the trunk to optimize space and balance.

This classic car’s recent history includes an oil change in July 2024, reflecting the owner’s commitment to maintenance. The chassis number and trim tag indicate that it was originally powered by a 4.5-liter (273 cubic-inch) V8, showcasing the transformation it has undergone to become the high-performance machine it is today.

The Barracuda comes with parts manuals and is offered with a clean Colorado title. It was previously listed on BringATrailer.com in May 2023, and now makes another appearance for interested buyers and collectors. Be sure to check out the auction on BringATrailer.com.
