If you’re a muscle car enthusiast, you’ll want to keep an eye on Mecum Indy’s auction this Friday, May 19th. That’s because a rare 1968 Plymouth HEMI Road Runner will be crossing the block, and it’s sure to turn heads.

This Road Runner is the first-year model of the popular muscle car, and it’s one of only 449 HEMI Road Runner coupes produced with a 4-speed manual transmission for 1968. It has just 14,422 miles on the odometer, and it was restored approximately five years ago.

Under the hood, you’ll find a date-correct 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI V8 engine that’s sure to get your heart racing. With hemispherical cylinder heads, dual 4-barrel carburetors, and free-flowing dual exhaust ending in chrome tips, this engine delivers eye-searing acceleration and a throaty roar that will make your heart skip a beat.

The transmission is a 4-speed manual with a Hurst shifter, and it’s paired with a Dana 60 SureGrip differential that can instantly shred both tires. The car also comes with heavy-duty suspension and cooling as standard equipment.

The exterior of this Road Runner is painted in Sunfire Yellow, a striking color that’s sure to turn heads. The only graphics on the car are the little bird icons and HEMI tags on the hood and decklid. Inside, you’ll find a two-tone vinyl interior in silver gray with black inserts, as well as a split front bench seat and a Chrysler AM/8-track radio.

The car sits on color-matched steel wheels with small-diameter bright hubcaps and red streak tires, giving it a classic muscle car look that’s hard to beat. And if you’re a collector, you’ll be happy to know that an original 1968 dealer brochure will be part of this sale.

Mecum estimates that this car will go for between $175,000 – $225,000, which is a testament to its rarity and desirability. If you’re a muscle car enthusiast or just appreciate classic cars, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to own a piece of automotive history.
