Alfa Romeo Opens Up Ordering Of The Turbodiesel Tonale For Europe!
New 1.6-liter Multijet Turbodiesel Model Is Now Available...
Alfa Romeo has announced that it has opened up orders for its 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale with the new 1.6-liter Multijet turbodiesel inline-four-cylinder engine for the European market. The 1.6-liter is paired with a 6-speed Alfa Romeo TCT dual-clutch automatic transmission. The combination is good for 130 horsepower and 236 ft.-lbs. (320 Nm) of torque and is only available on front-wheel-drive models.
Following the success of the Alfa Romeo Tonale with the new turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four-cylinder gasoline mHEV engine first shown on the Jeep® Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid models a couple of months ago, the diesel will try to continue on that success.
The month of June marked further growth for the brand, both in terms of share and sales volumes, with a market share equal to 1.1%, for the third consecutive month above 1%, with volumes recording a growth of about 25% compared to the month of May and compared to the same period in 2021.
Even with the diesel engine, Alfa Romeo Tonale can boast the most direct steering in the segment (13.6:1), which guarantees safe, comfortable, and fun handling on the road, placing it at the top of the class in terms of agility and driving dynamics. Furthermore, it is the only model in its category to be equipped with the Integrated Brake System (IBS). Fixed calipers by Brembo with 4 pistons, ventilated front discs and solid discs at the rear for excellent braking performance. The new diesel Tonale offers Alfa Romeo Dynamic Torque Vectoring and suspension with FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) shock absorbers as standard.
Unfortunately, the North American marketplace will not get the new 1.6-liter turbodiesel.
Instead, the U.S. and Canada will get powertrains to choose from: the same Q4 PHEV system from Europe (coming later this year) or a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder from the Stellantis Global Medium Engine (GME) family. It is rated at a best-in-class standard horsepower of 256 and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Equipped with a twin-scroll, low inertia turbocharger, direct fuel injection, and engine stop-start (ESS) technology, this engine gives Tonale the brand’s iconic dynamic performance and drivability.
