Alfa Romeo has officially begun North American production of their first plug-in hybrid (PHEV), the 2024 Tonale, at the Giambattista Vico Stellantis plant in Naples, Italy. The Tonale is a premium compact CUV with standard all-wheel drive, an electric range of over 30 miles (48 kilometers), and a starting U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $42,995. North American dealers can expect to receive the Tonale in June.
Larry Dominique, Senior Vice President and Head of Alfa Romeo North America, states that the Tonale offers a range of features, including over 30 miles of electric range, best-in-class 285 horsepower, and advanced technology. He believes that the Tonale’s entry into the competitive premium compact sport-utility segment and Alfa Romeo’s first electrified offering shows the brand’s clear direction for the future.
The Tonale marks a new era of luxury, electrification, and connectivity while still maintaining Alfa Romeo’s race-inspired DNA. As the brand’s first compact SUV, the Tonale embodies over 110 years of heritage.
The Tonale features a PHEV powertrain with a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery and a 90 kW electric motor that provides an electric range of over 30 miles (48 km). Its 1.3-liter turbocharged engine also contributes to a best-in-class output. Additionally, the Canadian market will receive a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with a best-in-class standard horsepower of 268 and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Tonale’s rapid-response Frequency Damping Suspension (FDS) system enhances its exhilarating driving dynamics and provides a comfortable ride while automatically adjusting the suspension for spirited driving. It also includes various driver assistance systems, Uconnect 5, an all-new connectivity platform with Alfa Connect, and modern Italian styling.
Customers in the U.S. who lease their Tonale can take advantage of a $7,500 federal EV tax credit, while Canadian Tonale PHEV customers can qualify for up to $5,000 in Canadian EV rebates.
The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV is priced starting at $42,995 in the U.S. and $54,995 in Canada, excluding destination charges.
