Rare 1999 Dodge Durango Shelby SP360 Hits The Market

Low-Mileage Shelby-Built Performance SUV With Serious Collector Appeal

Some vehicles perfectly capture a moment in time, and the 1999 Dodge Durango Shelby SP360 is one of them. Built during an era when Dodge was leaning hard into bold styling and brute-force V8 performance, the SP360 represents a unique collaboration between Carroll Shelby and Dodge that turned a family SUV into a legitimate performance machine. Even more impressive, this particular example shows just over 35,000 original miles and carries Shelby Serial No. 11, making it a standout among already scarce Shelby trucks.

At its core, the SP360 was Shelby’s vision of what a muscle-era SUV could be—aggressive, powerful, and still usable every day. Power comes from Dodge’s proven 5.9-liter (360 cubic-inch) MAGNUM V8, paired here with rear-wheel drive. While most enthusiasts associate the SP360 name with the supercharged four-wheel-drive (4WD) version, Shelby also offered a naturally aspirated, two-wheel-drive (2WD) configuration. That option lowered the original price significantly while still delivering the full Shelby look, handling upgrades, and performance attitude. This Durango is one of those rarer 2WD variants.

Visually, there’s no mistaking it for a standard Durango. Finished in unmistakable Viper Blue with bold White racing stripes, the Shelby treatment transforms the SUV’s presence. The package includes a unique twin-scoop hood, revised front fascia elements, mesh grille inserts, sculpted side skirts, and proper Shelby SP360 badging throughout. Chrome 17-inch Shelby wheels and fog lights round out the exterior, giving it a stance that still turns heads more than 25 years later.

Shelby didn’t stop at looks. The suspension was lowered roughly three inches and fitted with Edelbrock IAS shocks, making the SP360 feel far more planted than a stock Durango. Braking was also addressed in a serious way, with massive Brembo® six-piston front brakes and drilled, ventilated rotors—hardware rarely seen on SUVs of the late 1990s and a clear sign that Shelby intended this truck to perform, not just pose.

Inside, the cabin blends comfort with Shelby exclusivity. Special Cerullo bucket seats are fitted front and rear, each embroidered with Shelby branding. A Shelby dash plaque confirms this Durango as Serial No. 11, reinforcing its authenticity. Carbon-fiber-style trim accents add a sporty touch, while features like front and rear air conditioning, third-row seating, and even a flip-down rear entertainment screen with a VCR highlight how advanced this package was for its time.

Originally, Shelby planned a run of roughly 3,000 SP360 Durangos. Reality had other plans. Fewer than 300 units are believed to have been completed, making the SP360 one of the rarest Shelby production vehicles of the decade. That low production, combined with unmistakable styling and real performance upgrades, has pushed the SP360 firmly into collector territory.

With fresh tires, a clean history, low mileage, and strong overall presentation, this 1999 Dodge Durango Shelby SP360 stands as a compelling reminder of when Mopar wasn’t afraid to take risks. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, it’s a rare opportunity to own a truly unique piece of late-’90s Shelby and Dodge history.
