Rare 2009 Dodge Durango Limited Hybrid Surfaces on BringATrailer

Low-Mile SUV Blends HEMI® Power with Two-Mode Hybrid Tech

Every once in a while, a piece of Mopar history shows up that makes enthusiasts do a double take. That’s exactly what we have with this 2009 Dodge Durango Limited Hybrid now live on BringATrailer with no reserve. With just 26,000 miles on the clock, this three-row SUV combines old-school HEMI® V8 muscle with a rare two-mode hybrid system developed in partnership with GM, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.

A Clean, Low-Mile Example –

Finished in Mineral Gray Metallic, this Durango looks sharp and well-kept. It rides on chrome 18-inch five-spoke wheels wrapped in Nitto NT421Q tires, while the body is equipped with a sunroof, roof rails, running boards, fog lights, and rear parking sensors. A receiver hitch out back reminds you this hybrid wasn’t built just for sipping fuel—it can tow up to 6,000 pounds.

Comfortable and Loaded Interior –

Inside, the Limited Hybrid features gray leather with suede microfiber inserts, heated power-adjustable front seats with driver memory, and matching second and third-row seating. Luxury touches include power-adjustable pedals, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate controls, and an Alpine sound system with navigation. Rear passengers get their own entertainment system, while the driver benefits from a hybrid economy gauge and a digital odometer showing only 26k miles.

HEMI® Meets Hybrid –

Under the hood is the tried-and-true 5.7-liter (345 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 with Variable Valve Timing and Multi-Displacement System (MDS), paired with two electric motors and a 300-volt battery pack. Power is sent through a four-speed electronically variable transmission and a single-speed transfer case to either the rear or all four wheels. The two-mode hybrid system was designed to deliver a 25% boost in fuel economy—up to 50% better in the city—while still allowing full HEMI power for towing or climbing.

Recent maintenance includes an oil change in April 2025, fresh coolant, a new water pump, and front and rear differential fluid flushes in August 2024. The underbody does show some corrosion, but the SUV comes with a clean Carfax and a clean Florida title.

And so answers the question Is a Hemi-hybrid possible. Bring it back with the ZF 8-speed in place of the GM transmission. A Hemi Hybrid option for the Wagoneer and Ram 1500 might have a better chance now than in 2009.
