1988 Dodge Aries America Military Police Car Hits BringATrailer

A Rare K-Car Dressed For Duty Heads To The Auction Block

The Dodge Aries isn’t exactly the first car that comes to mind when you think of police cruisers. But this 1988 Dodge Aries America currently up for auction on BringATrailer.com proves that even Chrysler’s humble K-car could wear a badge—and in this case, the red-and-gold of the United States Marine Corps Military Police.

Bidding ends Tuesday, August 19 at 2:22 p.m. EDT, and the car is being offered at no reserve.

This Aries wears its USMC MP livery proudly, complete with a roof-mounted light bar and siren, rear side-window guards, and a full suite of period-correct police gear. Inside, you’ll find a working police scanner, siren/PA controller, radar detector, and an adjustable desk bolted to the floor. There’s also a firearm holder with a dummy weapon, adding to the authentic 1980s military police vibe.

Power comes from Chrysler’s trusty 2.2-liter inline-four, paired to a three-speed automatic transaxle. Factory-rated at 93 horsepower and 122 lb-ft of torque, it’s not built for high-speed pursuits but rather for dependable service. The odometer shows just under 40,000 miles, backed by a clean Carfax report showing no accidents or damage.

Recent maintenance includes a machined cylinder head, new head gasket, new radiator, fresh coolant and oil, and a new alternator belt. In April 2025, the braking system was refreshed with new front pads and rotors, plus new rear drum cylinders. The 14-inch steel wheels are fitted with black full covers and 185/70 Waterfall EcoDynamic tires.

The interior is a mix of factory simplicity and specialized military police modifications. Gray cloth bench seats front and rear offer seating for six, while the rear side windows are covered by perforated metal plates. The factory AM/FM radio remains, but the A/C currently does not blow cold.

Paint chips, blemishes, and some rust spots are present, lending the car an authentic, service-worn look. The auction includes memorabilia from its military police setup, making it not just a car, but a rolling display piece.

For Mopar fans, military vehicle enthusiasts, or collectors who appreciate unusual auction finds, this Aries America offers a rare blend of automotive history and military heritage. And with no reserve, the highest bidder on August 19 will be taking home a unique piece of K-car lore.
