Maserati CEO Reaffirms Stellantis Support Amid Tariff Turbulence
McKinsey & Co. Brought In To Assess Tariff Impact on Maserati, Alfa Romeo

Despite facing a tough year and fresh challenges from newly announced U.S. tariffs, Maserati’s top executive says Stellantis isn’t walking away from the legendary Italian luxury brand.
Santo Ficili, CEO of both Maserati and Alfa Romeo, recently confirmed in a letter to the Italian labor union Uilm that Stellantis is standing by Maserati as the company works through a shaky transition and slowing global demand.

“Stellantis confirms its commitment towards Italy, its workers and all its brands, including Maserati,” Ficili stated in response to growing concerns about the brand’s future.
This reassurance follows Stellantis’ decision to hire consulting firm McKinsey & Co. to help evaluate the long-term effects of U.S. tariffs on Maserati and Alfa Romeo. The two brands, both part of Stellantis’ premium segment, are currently working on updated strategies for future products.

The news comes after Maserati cut production by more than half in 2024, building just 11,300 vehicles and recording a hefty operating loss of €260 million (or about $295.83 million). With no new models officially on the calendar, Stellantis is pausing and reassessing Maserati’s roadmap before making its next move.
Ficili noted that while the car industry is already facing pressure from electrification, inflation, and supply chain instability, global tariffs are only adding more complexity to the situation.

“Tariffs and unstable international markets add new uncertainties to the automotive industry’s already difficult transition toward electrification and new technologies,” Ficili said.
Even so, he made it clear that the United States remains critical to the brand’s future. “The United States remains a strategic market for Maserati,” Ficili added.
Today, Maserati’s lineup includes the GranTurismo coupe, the convertible GranCabrio, the Grecale midsize SUV, and the low-volume, high-performance MC20 supercar. The company has paused new product launches, but Stellantis is expected to finalize an updated game plan for Maserati and Alfa Romeo in the near future.
