2026 Jeep® Cherokee Limited 4×4 Makes Its Detroit 4Fest Debut

Jeep Shows Off Its Newest SUV to Core Enthusiasts

Yesterday at the Detroit 4Fest, Jeep® enthusiasts got a close-up look at the all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4×4 at the Jeep display inside Holly Oaks ORV Park in Holly, Michigan. Surrounded by mud pits, obstacle courses, and a community of diehard off-road fans, the Cherokee drew plenty of attention as Jeep’s latest contender in the competitive midsize SUV segment.

A Big Comeback for the Cherokee –

After taking a short break from the market, the Cherokee is back and better than ever. Jeep made sure to bring the Limited 4×4 trim to Detroit 4Fest—proof that this isn’t just another crossover. Instead, it’s a return to what made Cherokee a household name, with an all-new design, new hybrid powertrain, and the 4×4 capability that Jeep is famous for.

The Limited model shown was loaded with premium touches, from its sharp LED lighting to its upscale interior. Parked alongside Jeep’s off-road lineup, it served as a reminder that Cherokee isn’t just about family practicality—it’s built to handle trails, dirt, and weather too. And while this one isn’t Trail Rated, an off-road Trailhawk model will be coming sometime next year.

Powertrain Built for Efficiency and Range –

Under the hood, the 2026 Cherokee Limited 4×4 features Jeep’s new turbocharged 1.6-liter I4 hybrid powertrain. It cranks out 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque, but the bigger story is its efficiency. With an estimated 37 mpg combined and more than 500 miles of range per tank, this Cherokee promises to go the distance without frequent stops at the gas station.

For Jeep fans who worried hybrids meant compromise, this system delivers both efficiency and performance. The two-motor setup provides plenty of low-end torque for trail crawling while offering peace of mind for long highway drives. Production of this hybrid system is set to take place in Michigan at Stellantis’ Dundee Engine Plant.

Premium Tech in a Rugged Package –

Stepping inside, the Cherokee Limited doesn’t skimp on comfort or technology. Standard features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen running Jeep’s latest Uconnect 5 system, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a long list of safety tech like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.

The cabin is also more spacious than before, with 30% more cargo room compared to the previous Cherokee. Jeep designers worked to create a vehicle that is both functional and stylish, featuring premium materials and ample smart storage. For those who wanted proof that Jeep could merge everyday comfort with rugged 4×4 capability, the Limited model on display sealed the deal.

Ready for Adventure –

Of course, no Jeep would be complete without serious off-road hardware. The Cherokee Limited 4×4 shown at Holly Oaks came equipped with the Jeep® Active Drive system and Selec-Terrain traction management with modes for Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand/Mud. Ground clearance sits at 8 inches, with approach and departure angles that put it at the top of its class.

Looking Ahead –

For buyers looking for a more affordable entry point, the standard Cherokee trim will launch in early 2026 with a starting MSRP of $36,995, including destination. The Cherokee will be built at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico. Limited and Overland models will reach dealers in the fourth quarter, with base and Laredo models reaching dealers in Q1 2025.

If it’s hybrid only I’m not biting yet. Perhaps there is a Pentastar V-6 lurking. Ten years in two wonderful current generation Cherokees has me sold on this Jeep, but I’m just not there on a hybrid. I’ll test one for sure but is there any chance us old school gas engine guys get something, you know, old school?

If no ICE only option they have lost a potential customer in me. Hopefully they’ll eventually offer the Pentastar V6 or a 4 cylinder 2.0 litre turbo as in the Hornet. With the shrinking of interest in EVs one would think they should know better than to offer only hybrid power.

Hybrid is not EV. Hybrid is the right powertrain for the majority of customers - no range anxiety but improved efficiency. Plus it removes the dreaded start stop feature since car can move while the engine is off. When done right, many people will not be able to tell a difference in drivability.

Really enjoy the hybrid powertrain in my Camry.

Why then is Toyota is moving all Hybrids? People do not equate EVs with Hybrids at all, and EV interesting is not shrinking it just not growing as fast the product planner envisioned.

Many model now, sales are being limited not because of Hybrids but because for the lack of capacity in hybrids. They in general, unless you get a PHEV behave in way that is invisible to the users. Fill Gas and push the go pedal, PHEV give you the same experience with a start up boast.

I am no longer interested in any vehicle that doesn't have hybrid after owning 2, even the Hurricane Charger likely needs at least a mild boast, to remove the torque converter for me to buy it.

And please let the Pentastar rest in peace, what a wonderful engine for its time, for its time.

Edit: Despite what Forbes said, it looks like we will Get the Punch.... I would prefer a 2.0 with ZF like JGC... Maybe we will get a updated model.

I will wait a few year to see how the Punch does.
