Chinese-Built Midsized Pickup Arrives In Dealer Showrooms...
Last week, we discussed the debut of the all-new 2025 Ram 1200 in Mexico, marking a significant expansion for the Ram brand in the region. This midsize pickup truck, which has already gained traction in other markets such as the Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek, is built on a body-on-frame design and is based on the Chinese Kaicene F70 and Changan trucks.
While it shares many robust features with its Fiat and Peugeot counterparts, the Ram 1200 distinguishes itself with a unique grille and bold “R-A-M” lettering on the tailgate. The Mexican-market Ram 1200 is produced in China, following in the footsteps of Dodge’s successful Mexican-market Journey crossover.
Cab Configurations and Trim Levels –
Offered in two different cab configurations (the two-door Regular Cab and the four-door Crew Cab), Mexican customers can choose from three distinct trim levels (Tradesman, Big Horn, and Laramie) to cater to different needs and preferences.
The work-oriented Tradesman model is the entry-level trim level. It is the only trim level offered in either Regular or Crew Cab. Tradesman models feature practical unpainted plastic fascias, 16-inch steel wheels, and a choice of Gray or White exterior colors.
The mid-range Big Horn trim enhances the truck’s features with body-colored fascias, a chrome grille, and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It also offers drive modes (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT), rear parking sensors, a backup camera, fog lights, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and a 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As the top-tier trim, the Laramie includes standard four-wheel drive (4×4), a 4×4 traction selector knob, and a rear differential lock. Additional premium features include keyless entry, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch aluminum wheels, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, power leather seats, and cargo lights.
The Big Horn and Laramie trims are available in Dark Gray Metallic, Metallic Red, or Gray.
Performance and Capability –
Under the hood, the Ram 1200 is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 207 horsepower and 226 lb-ft of torque. The Tradesman models come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, while the Big Horn and Laramie trims feature a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The truck’s towing capacity is 3,000 kg (6,614 pounds), which is comparable to that of other midsize pickups such as the Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier. Depending on the version, its payload capacity ranges from 1,150 to 1,210 kg (2,535 to 2,668 pounds).
Pricing –
Pricing for the 2025 Ram 1200 in Mexico starts at $444,900 MXN (approximately $25,000 USD) for the Tradesman Regular Cab 4×2. The Tradesman Crew Cab 4×2 is priced at $492,900 MXN (or $27,727 USD). The Big Horn Crew Cab 4×2 is available for $578,900 MXN (or $32,565 USD), while the top-tier Laramie Crew Cab 4×4, with its extensive feature set, is priced at $668,900 MXN (or $37,627 USD).
Mexico will be the first market to receive the 2025 Ram 1200, with plans to introduce a similar model in select Latin American markets. Some of the Ram 1200 production for Latin America will also join the Fiat Titano in Argentina.
