The electrified 2022 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited 4xe, has been crowned 2022 “4×4 of the Year” by 4×4 Magazine. The decision was made by a jury made up of readers and journalists from the magazine. The win marks the seventh time that a Jeep has received the title and the second time the Wrangler (JL) has won the award, the first being in 2019.
“This victory is totally unprecedented for the Jeep brand”, declared Guillaume de Boudemange, Director of Jeep France. “Indeed, even if the brand has already won the title of “4×4 of the Year” 6 times (in 1986, 1989, 1994, 2008, 2015, and 2019), it is quite simply the first time that a Jeep electrified won this prestigious trophy”.
“This seventh title shows that the electrification of the Wrangler 4xe allows it to increase its capacities while being respectful of the environment,” he went on to say. “It is a magnificent demonstration of the know-how of our engineers who have managed to preserve the DNA and the values of Jeep which are Adventure, Freedom, Passion, and Authenticity by transposing them into a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). The “Zero Emission Freedom” vision of the Jeep brand, therefore, won its first title of “4×4 of the Year” in France”.
And I am convinced that this is the beginning of a long series since we are only at the beginning of the electrification of the brand which currently has three PHEV vehicles. We are expecting, in the second half of the year, the Grand Cherokee 4xe, which also skillfully combines the PHEV engine with the values of Jeep. Before seeing the arrival in our range in 2023, of the first 100% electric Jeep BEV,” he concluded.
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe, delivers 49 MPGe and 21 miles of all-electric range via its 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque PHEV powertrain. The PHEV Wrangler Unlimited 4xe continues to offer the standard Wrangler’s off-road capability, but now with a quiet, high-torque powertrain.
