1972 Dodge Charger SE Brougham Rescued After 30 Years

Mopars5150 Revives a Rare Dealer Demo Charger and Reunites It with Its Original Owner...

When it comes to classic Mopars, few stories are as touching as this one. Earlier this year, the team at Mopars5150 uncovered a 1972 Dodge Charger SE Brougham that had been sitting untouched for three decades. What started as a simple barn find quickly turned into an incredible journey of restoration, nostalgia, and a heartfelt reunion with the car’s original owner.

The discovery took place in Sparks, Nevada, where Mopars5150 was tipped off about an old Charger that had been sitting in a garage. Upon arrival, they met Harry, a lifelong Mopar fan who had owned the car since new. But this wasn’t just any Charger—it was an ultra-rare dealer demo car, a model used to showcase top-tier features at Dodge dealerships back in the day.

Though Harry cherished the car, he wasn’t in a rush to sell. His other pride and joy, a 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda, remained parked nearby. After some heartfelt discussion, he agreed to let the Charger go, knowing it would receive the care and attention it deserved. Troy Bergeron, the face of Mopars5150, took on the challenge and wasted no time breathing life back into the B-Body classic.

Once the Charger was back on the road, Troy took it to Hot August Nights in Reno, where he surprised Harry with the fully revived Mopar. The emotional moment saw Harry climb into the passenger seat, reliving memories from decades past. Though initially concerned about where the car might end up, he was reassured that such a well-preserved example would find the right home.

This 1972 Charger SE Brougham remains a true survivor, with nearly all-original components. Under the hood sits a numbers-matching 6.6-liter (400 cubic-inch) Big Block V8, backed by a 3-speed A727 automatic transmission. By 1972, Dodge had already phased out the legendary 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI® and 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) SIX PACK V8s, making this 400CI V8 the biggest powerplant in the Charger lineup in 1972. In fact, fewer than 3,000 Charger SE Broughams were produced with this setup, making it a true collector’s piece.

Though it failed to meet its reserve at Mecum’s Dallas 2024 auction, the Charger is currently available for $34,500. As for Harry’s 1970 ‘Cuda? Troy made an offer, but the seasoned Mopar enthusiast wasn’t ready to part ways with his beloved E-body—at least not yet. If history tells us anything, we may see that ‘Cuda on Mopars5150’s channel in the near future.
